For those who use facebook and upload video, photo's and such you may want to check this out..

FB Terms of Service

Seems FB changed their TOS and anything you upload to their server now becomes their property..Even if you previously copyright the item...

I agree that there were some interesting changes to the TOS language, but most of that language is there very specifically so that the information can properly be shared on the network you your friends.

It actually says NOTHING about it becoming "their property". In fact, the paragraph before that in the TOS specifically states that User Content is EXCEPTED from Facebook ownership.

Basically it DOES say that they do have a right to USE your content (subject to your selected privacy settings)...and ANYBODY should be aware that any information they upload to ANY web site can easily fall under such "licenses".

A very good rule of thumb is never to say or do or post anything online that you don't want to come back and bite you later...now that I think of it that is good advice for offline as well!:thumbsup2

Like was said, this is true for any and all online content. If you don't want to share it for free with the world then don't put it on facebook/myspace/youtube..etc.

This isn't much different than when someone sends out an email claiming that facebook is going to start charging.

Does that mean the video my friend made of me blowing out the candles on my Disney birthday cake a property of facebook? Even when i played the starring role??

How rude!

No it doesn't. Read my post. And if you are actually concerned about the terms of service on a web site, I recommend reading them...

Don't worry I was just kidding! I stick by the same guidelines, nothing I wouldn't want the world to know. I don't mind them knowing it was pink strawberry frosting! :goodvibes

Facebook is backpedaling - this was posted this morning on all Facebook pages:

Over the past few days, we have received a lot of feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised. For more information, visit the Facebook Blog.

If you want to share your thoughts on what should be in the new terms, check out our group Facebook Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.

Doc...I saw that this morning when I logged on...very glad to see!
