I'm currently about 5 days into my 30 day FB jail sentence.

This is my fourth sentence in the past five months. The first three were for three days each.

Back in March, soon after the Oprah, Meagan Markle and Harry interview I posted an uncomplimentary remark about the Queen. A day or two later someone must have taken offense and reported me, and I was sentenced to 3 days for "hate speech."

In mid-April there was a story about Caitlyn Jenner hurting for money and the K-family not helping her. I said she should make a porn tape like stepdaughter Kim did. A few days later another 3 day sentence for inappropriate sexual comment.

Then in early June there was an article about women's summer fashions. One of the models was plus sized and wearing a backless dress. I said that she should consider something that suits her better; that the dress wasn't doing her any favors. This time 3 days for hate speech and/or bullying.

All of the above were comments on Buzzfeed articles, where the majority of the readers are woke ultra-sensitives [kitties]. I deleted BF from my feed.

Last weekend I was on a FB page about the films of director John Waters. The moderator there warned that FB is cracking down. If you want to quote some outrageous dialogue from the films, identify it as such, and put the character's name and film.

BAM!! Within 15 seconds the algorithm flags it as inducing violent or destructive behavior and gives me a 30 day time out. I click that I disagree with the suspension and choose "taken out of context" as the reason. FB says it will review the decision.

The next day FB says it upholds it decision. The 30 day suspension stands. On the FB page, the moderator posts that he contacted FB to confirm my side but they wouldn't listen.

For years FB has condoned and even encouraged all kinds of violent and threatening posts from various groups or people, overlooks those spam posts about get rich quick schemes, and lets people openly tell each other they hope the other gets covid and dies. I myself have posted things 10x worse that were acceptable.

I think when my 30 days are up I might consider getting myself permanently banned by posting the most vile crap and telling FB and its leaders exactly where they can stick a 50 foot cactus.

I don’t care much for Facebook either. I’ve seen way worse things on there then what you posted. If it weren’t for my daughter-in-law I wouldn’t be on there at all. I’m very selective of the friends I have. I’m not like others who friend everybody and anybody. I’m sorry but if I really wouldn’t want to be friends with you in real life why should I be friends with you on Facebook? Enjoy the 30 days off! I would love to see your last post!

better hurry up and reserve that 50 foot cactus....they are dying in the SW desert, botanists are reporting that the bizzare flowering that happen this spring is the sign the cactus is dying and preparing seeds for the next round of desert rains...which Phx and Tucson are getting...but they cut down their cactus to build.

Younger DD got banned a few years ago. She just made up a new screen name and came back, although she doesn’t post as often anymore.

Never understood why people use that site or Twitter or Instagram or whatever… I get wanting to see what other people are up to, but sharing yourself like that?
I read 1984 and Brave New World. I don’t need to help create it.

Why use it? Because Social Media sites are where Police, Fire Departments and Local Government post official information these days. We have major wildfires burning in California and the evacuation orders, maps and updates are all posted on Facebook.

Absolutely. However, right now Neighborhood Watch moderators are having a tough time staying out of Facebook Jail. People can no longer post their Ring etc. videos of crimes unless they cover up license plate numbers of the suspects car! A great use for Facebook now prohibited. What good is posting crime videos if you can't post the license plate of the suspects car!

I was in FB jail for a week for suggesting that a friend should kill the rodents invading her yard and that the rats should die.

The would probably get the post deleted from my local Nextdoor. Not that people don't ask how to deal with wildlife but rather the "rats should die" part. There was this one gentleman who kept going on the site to offer his services for shooting any and all coyotes..haven't seen him around for a while and every time he would mention it the post would end up deleted. It's just a bit different when you're asking "how do I deal with moles" vs saying "kill 'em all"

I'm not sure that it's an issue with one of the main FB local groups for Stolen stuff but I can see how that could be iffy. A citizen suspecting something (even with video) isn't complete proof and you could be putting someone on blast and potentially in danger if they were actually innocent. Law enforcement operates under different protocol. I know my local police department only posts things when they've exhausted their other investigative measures. Private citizens usually do that immediately. It's also an issue in my neighborhood where people were posting videos up on our eNeighbors site we use of teens or younger messing around in the pool area, or being out in the pool parking lot past the time it was open or posting videos or pictures of adults, etc and sometimes license plates of vehicles in the pool parking lot and there was concerns over putting that publicly instead of sending that as an attachment to a specific group of people so now they remove any post that has video or picture. They are getting bids for security cameras and are checking with the HOA insurance policy and police department in regards to posting that stuff publicly. As far as ring I know multiple police departments in my area are hooked up with them so the easiest (and best way) is to allow them to access the video and go from there.

I'm not saying I don't see the benefit to posting the actual license plate but I have seen how concerns have arisen due to it.

We define attacks as violent or dehumanizing speech, harmful stereotypes, statements of inferiority, expressions of contempt, disgust or dismissal, cursing and calls for exclusion or segregation. We also prohibit the use of harmful stereotypes, which we define as dehumanizing comparisons that have historically been used to attack, intimidate, or exclude specific groups, and that are often linked with offline violence. We consider age a protected characteristic when referenced along with another protected characteristic. We also protect refugees, migrants, immigrants and asylum seekers from the most severe attacks, though we do allow commentary and criticism of immigration policies. Similarly, we provide some protections for characteristics like occupation, when they’re referenced along with a protected characteristic."

Maybe in whomever is reading it when it gets reported doesn't meet the definition of hate speech. I can absolutely see how using the term can be against their standards so either it's always being overlooked or there's something in the way the comments are phrased and used that means they are awful but aren't actually against their standards. But I also think FB has a long way to go and they try to tread too carefully sometimes in not taking action.

You can use those site and never share about yourself. DH is on FB but never posts.

But there are many reasons why it’s useful - I can follow for fire updates, the kids’ schools post there, I can get news updates. Twitter especially can be useful for current events.

yep.....wife is in jail....all the time....she has poor control skills and can't grasp control skills of facebook.

Well, it also is an avenue for private citizens to vent frustration. Voters here passed a measure saying crimes where the loss is less than $950 should not be prosecuted. An effort to ease overcrowding in jails and prisons. Most of these crimes involve crimes where the loss is less than $950, so police won't take a report, and they don't take a report because the District Attorney won't prosecute, because the voters said it wasn't worth their time.

But venting that so and so stole your garden flag isn't the same as posting the video still of the person and/or their vehicle with the tags. FB isn't about removing your post venting about the stolen garden flag (unless something else is going on in it).

There's a difference in not prosecuting and not taking a report. If your police department isn't taking a report that's an issue with them. Around here the advice is to make a police report because it's one of the only ways you can establish a pattern and most def. has come into play for theft rings (minor theft or not) and people don't always stay with petty crime, some start off and then graduate up. Not prosecuting based on a dollar amount is because of the time and expense of a petty crime. Not taking a report period is not something I would ever advocate my police department doing especially as a taxpayer. Just because action isn't done doesn't mean a report shouldn't exist. Maybe you should be writing to your police department about that, how can citizens stand for that?
