Eyeglasses on Rides

Besides Screaming are there any other rides I need to be concerned about? Any tips would be greatly appreciated as only our youngest doesn't wear them. I have backups for all of us put aside. Anything else I should know?

DS10 only got glasses last year and was really nervous about losing them on a ride. It probably isn't really that much of an issue; I know his friend wears them just fine on most rides (although maybe not Screamin'). Anyway, we got DS an eyeglasses strap just to give him peace of mind, and I'm sure they help hold the glasses on his face too. :thumbsup2

DH wears glasses and always wears a strap on Screamin and Space, but I wear my sunglasses on Screamin without a strap and have never had a problem. BUT, my sunglasses don't cost nearly as much as DH's glasses! ;)

If you forget or can't find a strap - we've been able to find them at the stores in DLR. DH forgot his strap on a couple of trips and now has a nice collection. :thumbsup2

I always wear my glasses on all the rides, without a strap or concern. However my children prefer to take them off on all of the fast rides, including Splash Mountain.

I think it comes down to how comfortable you feel, I know I would not enjoy the rides if I were worried about my glasses falling off. But I have been wearing glasses for more than 40 years and have a good feel for what it takes for them to fall off. I also take care of my glasses (unlike my kids) and know they have a snug fit, so I don't worry about them falling off.

Personally, if you have any concerns get a strap or take them off, otherwise you will not enjoy the ride fully. And don't we all go to DLR to enjoy the rides?

On a similar note, does anyone else enjoy counting the hats on the Matterhorn tracks?

Dd15 and I wore glasses on all of the rides. I don't take mine off because I can't see anything without :) However, after the first couple of times on screaming and space dd did take hers off so that she didn't have to think about them and neither of us were using straps. I would get straps for Younger children or anybody that worries about their glasses as it is such an easy fix.

I'd wear 'em with a strap. I've never lost a pair of sunglasses but I wouldn't risk prescription glasses. Or get contacts. It's nice not having the world cut off in a blur around the edges. :)

Thank you for the help. I'm glad glasses falling off don't seem to be much of an issue. I think we will play it by ear and if we decide we need them some cool Disney ones will be the ticket :thumbsup2.

Thanks!

If they are fitted correctly there should not be a problem. I have never had one.

I wear Oakleys and they do not have curved ear pieces that go behind the ear. They are straight. I always freak out that they're going to fall off on rides, and sometimes I do take them off and put them in my button shirt pocket. But... I will say, Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Rock n Rollercoaster (WDW), and also CA Screamin' I have been on with my glasses and they have not fallen off!

I don't know if Croakies are still in fashion, but I may look into a set of those!

I usually take off my Maui Jim sunglasses because their replacement cost is a lot.....BUT....of all the faster rides, Screamin' is the only one that I keep them on for and I've never had a problem or felt like they would come off.

On a similar note, does anyone else enjoy counting the hats on the Matterhorn tracks?

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:No! I do the exact same thing :thumbsup2

I have great close-up picture of DS13 after Splash Mountain -- glasses covered in water drops. He got to sit in front because he is over 5 feet.;)

DS13 and DD10 rode everything in DLR last fall with their glasses on, no problems.

DH clips his expensive sunglasses onto his shirt collar during fast rides and I always give him grief about possibly losing them, but he rode everything in WDW and didn't lose them, so I guess I'm wrong!

great question - I've been thinking about the same thing.

Glad to hear it shouldn't be an issue, b/c it would be nice to see on the rides.

Out of curiosity, I just double-checked my trip photos to be sure I wasn't handing out bad advice.

DH caught us on Screamin' takeoff with DS and DD wearing their glasses. We also took a picture of the Space Mountain ride photo. Again, two kids with glasses on their faces.

If they didn't come off on those two rides, they ain't coming off!
