If you had an extra week to camp on the way to FW or on the way home, where would you go (besides FW)?

The kids (DD9,DS5,DS2) and I would be happy extending the FW stay, but DH insists there are other places to see:confused3 .

We love the Trave-L-Park in Myrtle beach. Very nice, pools, lazy rivers, and amazing comfort stations, probably as nice, or nicer than the fort. Right on the beach, and lots of stuff to do around.

Coming down from Philly I'd stop at Myrtle Beach or maybe head southwest towards the Gulf Coast, somewhere there's a beach. Depending on the time of year, I've always wanted to visit the Crystal River area and swim with the manatees.

Jekyll Island Ga. has a beautiful beach and a nice campground close. Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine :thumbsup2

We went to Jekyll trip before last, did you like it? I thought it was ok, but kinda boring. My wife Loved it, but I thought the campground was kinda outdated, and the bugs, OMG the bugs.

The campground was very basic. Nothing for kids to do. We stopped for the beaches.... I loved hunting for sand dollars.

I did think it was pretty cool watching all the people use nets to catch shrimp, but my legs were bloody stumps from the bugs by the time I got off the beach.

I was going to mention Jekyll Isle or Myrtle Beach but others beat me to it. Other options: Virginia Beach or Williamsburg/Jamestown.

Wow your dh sounds like mine. He wants to go somewhere else as well on our trip. In fact he doesnt even want to go to Disney. Can you even imagine that? :scared1: When are you going? Where in PA are you? I am also in suburban philadelphia.

Apalachian Trail? Am I getting better with these acronyms?

the Busch Gardens in Williamsburg is lots of fun.. DO NOT stay at the Jamestown Beach campground. DH would not even let me look at their CS and said if our plumbing went out he would go outside before using the bath house. lots of sites with bad electric. bad all around..

Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine would get my vote. With the little ones, there would be plenty to do and see and its not too far out of the way.

In August of last year, we stayed at one of the Williamsburg KOA's (there are two - right next to each other) - nice, clean, friendly folks - your basic KOA. The kids loved the pool and game room and the recumbent bikes. We had a large pull thru site but we did have to run the front of the MH up on Legos to level the rig. We had weeklong tickets to Busch Gardens and Water Country and we had a blast. See pics below:

..WHOOAA , THERES OTHER PLACES BESIDES FORT WILDERNESS !!!!Why didn't anyone tell me ?? I'd still stay at the Fort and do the other guys (Universal & Islands) Can't forget SeaWorld and now they also have a new water park , course gotta run to the beach, an hey, maybe do a partyboat fishing trip. Thats MHOOBY..Mr.:goofy: ...(MHOOBY = My Humble Opinion,Otta Be Yours):rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Since you DH won't bend on another week at the Fort...instead of spending the whole extra week at a one place maybe you can spread it out like 3 days in Williamsburg, 2 days at Myrtle Beach and 2 days at Jekyll Island...you get the idea...that way your kids won't get bored with one place. However, I would recommend doing the extra week before going to the Fort. I don't want to even imagine having to be in another campground for a week with kids that just camped at FW. :scared1:

We are traveling for 2 weeks but only staying one week at the fort - we are staying at Hilton Head - www.hiltonheadharbor.com for 3 night and then going to Panana City Beach - www.rvresort.com. There is a zoo nextstore to this resort. We are also traveling with a DD 5 and DS 4. Hope this helps
