Extra magic hours questions?

We were just looking at the hours for our stay and it seems that every day that we planned is the evening extra magic hours. We were wondering how is it that these are only for those staying at the resorts. How do other people know that they have to leave and how do they determine that they did? We are staying on-site but were just wondering.

Also, If for some reason you can't make your reservations for dinner or character meal do you have to pay something. If you know that you have to cancel, how far in advance should you do so?

You have to get a wristband at locations throughout the park. that is the only way you can get on a ride is with the wristband. When you go to get your wristband, they ask to see your key to the world card.

Wristbands were discontinued in September. Now you need to show your KTTW card at each ride/attraction.

There are some Character Meals that you must give 48 hr cancellation notice to or you will be charged a cancellation fee. They are the ones that asked for your credit card #-CRT, Mickey's Backyard BBQ and there are some others.

It's nice to cancel as soon as you know you won't be able to go so others can get a spot.
