Extra Magic Hours on check-in day?

We're planning a trip to Disneyland in August and are considering staying on site Thursday through Sunday, but getting a cheaper off-site room on Wednesday night. If we can't check in until Thursday afternoon, would we be able to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours that morning?

You can't take advantage until you check in. But you can go check in early in the morning even if you don't plan on moving your things in until later. You will need a room key to access EMH.

Make sure you get a room key for everyone in your party. Everyone may be asked to show one

We have done this a bunch of times! We will check in by 6 am for a 7 am EMH and check our bags with the bellhop and be in line usually by 6:30 or 6:45. They will give you your room keys but won't divulge the room number until they are actually ready. Works like a charm.
