Extra hours and room key ????

I have a group of friends going to WDW next week. They bought their tickets at the Disney Store but they are staying on site. It's a large group with quite a few kids so someone is bound to loose a room key! I told them they needed to have that room key if they wanted to take advantage of the extra hours.....so here's my question. What happens if a room key is misplaced in the park and they realize it when they go to get their wristband? Will the CM really NOT give them a wristband (let's say 1 out of 10 people do not have it!) Will they have to go back to the resort to have a key issued and then return to the park? I know that if their tickets were attached to the key they could just go to the guest relations desk but this is not he case for them. I just want to give them every tip possible! (psst they are "newbies"! )

It depends, some CM's might go by the rules and say no and others may say its ok. I would suggest maybe having a zip loc baggie and when leaving the resort, everyone put their key in it so they are all together- have an adult put the baggie in their fanny pack/back pack.

I had the same thought, make one person the "Keeper of the Keys". Less likely to get misplaced this way.

If it's a child's key that is lost, CMs will generally just have the parent vouch for the child, that the child is staying at the resort with the rest of the family. If it's an adult, that adult may get an understanding CM who issues a band anyway, but more likely than not, that adult will have to go back and have a new key made. "I lost my room key, but I'm with these guys" is one of the most common excuses that people make when trying to scam a wristband, sneak into a morning EMH, or get into any place that is limited to resort guests only. CMs aren't likely to issue a wristband, because then they have to do it for everyone who comes up and says they lost their key -- and you'd be surprised how many people suddenly "lose their key" when they find out that doing so will get them a wristband.

Money, park tickets, room keys, car keys -- this is stuff you just have to hang on to. And if you can't, well .... then you should be inconvenienced by having to go all the way back to the resort and wait while a new room key is issued! If you have to take the time and trouble to go back to the resort, then maybe you'll hang onto the key more diligently next time. Isn't that exactly what we teach our kids?

I'll relay that message to the ones that are traveling! I was just trying to help a large group of friends. Should they consider their room key "gold"?...yes. Do people accidently misplace things?...yes What they do and do not "teach" thier kids is not my business.

I kinda figured that the great big toothy smile at the end of my message would indicate that I was kind of saying it all in fun. You know -- those warnings that you give your spouse and kids when you say things like, "If you can't find the hamper, then you deserve to wear dirty underwear!"

Nope....went right over my head and out the back door!!

I think that is was the sentence before about how they "should" be inconvenienced that made me think you were upset at my question...sorry! I can only imagine how many people try to pull "But I am a resort guest" scam but with a group of this size something is bound to get lost! If 1 person could be responsible for all of the keys that would be great but not all the kids are little in this group and they may be allowed some time in the parks on their own....they will need the key for their room charging.

Anyway.....it was just a question they had and I'm sorry if I misunderstood any responses...

Antkim, if one loses their room key, the minute they find they lost it, tell them to go to Guest Relations immediately and let them know. Especially if they're tickets are on the room key!

If the men are not carrying their wallets so they do not get wet on the rides.... Suggest getting those little neck holders from Wal-Mart. It seems we found ours in the jewelry section. It is a little plastic square pouch that zips shut on a type of cord that hangs around your neck. It worked great for us! LOL.. I am sure there is a name for them, It just has left me right now and I can not think of it!

I was just there are I had to show all the room keys....even my ds's. This is why I was asking about a lost key. So to answer your question...yes, you all need to show a room key.

Yup. Because you could have someone staying on property, and then having a friend lives locally or is staying elsewhere. And unless everyone had to show a room key, you'd end up with a lot of people showing one room key and saying, "Oh ... this is my boyfriend (best friend, sister, whatever) -- they're staying with me."

The EMH benefit is for people who are staying on property only. Checking everyone's room key is the only way to determine that only on-site guests are utilizing this benefit.
