Nope, we don't have them up yet, and I can't decide which kind to get.

What do you prefer, icicles, rope lights, all one colour, multi-colour, something else that looks great?

All suggestions appreciated!! :)

I go through this every year. I pick something, decide I'm not really happy with them, and don't want to repeat it the next season!

then this year we bought multi color lighes ( mini ) for the bushes and around the door, the larger old fashion lights for the edge of the roof. We didn't use icicle lights this year. We also have 2 lighted deer as well.

We have white rope lights and I love them. And they were easy for DH to put up! :teeth:

Last year, I got some of those net lights that you just wrap around or drape over shrubs. They were very easy.

I've been looking at the rope lights, and the mini net lights. Do the net lights look "scattered" enough?

Three different light effects Tony? Sounds very nice! :)

All white rope lights, every year. And candles in the windows. :)

We had icicle lights for 2yrs., hated them because they banged against the house and would flip up over the gutters.
This year we did big white lights with a multi-colored lights below it.

My favorite lights are all one color, but I like any house that looks festive. If white is too boring, there are all red lights that look very nice. There's one house in our neighborhood that has white lights on the house, red lights lining the walkways, and green lights on the trees. It's interesting because it's a little different than what you're used to seeing, but they did it tastefully and it looks nice.

I have the all white icicle lights. Some people think that the multi-color are more festive but I just like the simple clean look of these along the roof line. But then I have all white lights on my tree as well. I add the color when I trim the tree.

I always loved the look of all blue lights if there is snow around.

Funny you should post that montessori, because I was just going to suggest all white or multi-colored... just not all blue because to me all blue makes it look haunted !!! That's what makes the world go round !

Yes it takes all kinds, doesn't it? :p
I haven't seen decorated houses in the snow in many many years.
I just seem to remember liking the blue lights surrounded by snow.
I think the simple, classic look of a wreath and a single candle in every window is really nice too.

We don't seem to be doing much here at home this year, we put a green bulb in the porch light and a huge poinsetta by the door.
The tree is in the middle of the picture window.
We have a little tree and some multi-colored lights to bring to the Boardwalk with us!

Happy Holidays!

We do red, white, and green on the 4 pine trees in our front yard, we have a wreath on our chimney with a big spotlight shining on it, we have a spotlight shining on our front door, which also has a wreath.

I used to do the white candles in the windows, but it got to be too much of a pain in the neck to plug/unplug them every day, and I always worried about the house burning down if I left them plugged in all the time! Although my neighbor has them in her windows year-round, and has for about 4 years, and her house is still there...LOL!
