If we are doing a Universal day in the middle of a week at Disney in January, and want to ONLY focus on Harry Potter, should we purchase the Express Pass or no?

You should be fine w/o the EP during that time. The parks are generally slow.

I agree that you should be ok but do take time to try the other rides! It's a great park! You also need Park to parks- don't forget.

Definitely doing Park to Park. We want to make sure we see all of Harry Potter, but plan to venture out to see more if there's time

Does the lower crowd levels include January 2nd? I've heard several things ranging from extremely packed to not. We are doing the same thing. Son and i are breaking away from disney and the wife and daughter for a day in universal. Debating on the need for the express pass for that since we only have the one day...

Crowds don't start slowing down until the second week of January. I expect many people to hang around until the end of the week. If you get to the park and lines are long, you can purchase the EP at any number of locations throughout both parks. Just budget for it in case you need to purchase.
