We went a couple of years ago and they scanned our keys at the EP entrance. I think I remember hearing that your room key is no longer used as your EP, is that true? How does it work now?

Thanks

You take your room key to a kiosk in the hotel and you get a photo ID express pass. That is what is now scanned at the entrance to the express pass lines.

There was a lot of fraud with the old express passes, so now your photo is on it.

I am going to piggy back onto this thread if you don't mind. I tried the search but couldn't find the answer.

If I stay at a Universal hotel for 2 nights, do I get express pass for 3 days, or just 2? I want to stay somewhere nearby on arrival night because it would be late. Can I go to the hotel and get my room key and express pass the next morning or do I have to wait till checkin time? Can I still use express pass on my check-out day?

You get it for check in day and check out day. So get to the hotel as early as possible and you'll be able to get two uses for every night.

You'll get three early admission days and 3 unlimited express days if you stay at one of the deluxe onsite hotels for two nights.

Thanks so much! That bit of information is so helpful with planning !

It's a great perk. Our family arrived at 8 a.m. on check-in day and our room was already ready. However, even if it wasn't, they have a holding area for luggage (we stayed at the Royal Pacific) that we could have dropped off there, done a check-in and gone to the park right away.

Absolutely loved the express pass system.
