Explain this to me one more time.

I've read the threads and I am SO confused, so explain this one more time. I am on free dining. I go to let us say Askerhaus (all but 1 or 2 of our meals are buffets). We get seated. Will they take our room card at the beginning? We eat our meal. They then bring me my receipt and I put a line where the tip goes and put the original number in the total line and sign it and give it back to my server. The server leaves and I put down my cash for the tip and get up and leave. Do I have the sequence of events correct if I am tipping in cash?

First you will eat! Then you will be presented with a bill. You will give the server your room card for the dining plan. The server will process the bill and will bring you a receipt to sign. You can then add a tip to the receipt and your tip will be billed to your room, or you can leave cash with the signed copy of the receipt.

So I give him the card and if they ask charge the tip or cash, then I would say cash, but I wouldn't give it to him then? (I don't want to!!! I want them to be gone so I can give them what I think is fair!!!)

They wont stand there and hover. They will just drop the check and what you do after that is up to you!

Its just like a regular restaurant. They bring the bill and leave.

But what about this:

we had 2 seperate times when we had to dig out cash. no one explained how it worked, so at captains grille, I took out cash. she just dropped everything off. at big river grille, she said there was no way and you had to tip with cash, which wasn't correct. they told me that the stuff disappears once they put thru the DDP. At planet hollywood, we didn't get a 1st receipt with the tip amounts like at other places and asked, she said she could have a manager do an override for the tip amount and put it on our room, which is what she did.

So many different answers.....not everyone does the samething.
