Can anyone explain what choices for character meals there are? Which characters are at each? Cost for each? Food quality/choices for each?

Trying to make a decision since we will only go to one.

Thanks. I know it is a tall order.

I don't have extensive knowledge of all the where's character meals are held, but we had a very enjoyable character breakfast at the Plaza Inn on Fri., 12/23. Not sure of the exact price, but adults were in the $20-22 price range and children (I think) in the $16-18 range. The characters that visited us were Fairy Godmother, Tigger, Pooh, Chip & Dale, Captain Hook, and Minnie. The food was pretty standard but tasty...scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, biscuits & gravy, french toast, Mickey waffles, cereal, juices, and made-to-order omelettes (but that took a long time).

We ate at 8:30ish and it was quite crowded, but a later reservation might not be so busy.

An interesting side note was when the hostess seated us at our table she told us that Hugh Hefner and several Playmates had been the last people to eat at that very table just the night before!

This link should help you. http://www.wdwinfo.com/Disneyland/dining.htm

For breakfasts I have done Goofy's Kitchen twice and really enjoyed it. There is a great variety of food and it is all delicious. I would recommend this one.

If youa re looking for a lunch, I have also done the Princess Lunch at Ariel's Grotto and that was a great experience too.

This must be my fifth post about how much we loved our character breakfast at Storyteller's in the GCH Dec 14th.

Can't remember exact pricing, but I think it's something like $21/adult and $13/child for the buffet, plus you have the option of ordering off the menu if you don't want the spread. The spread, IMO, was impressive. Excellent selection of fresh melon, strawberries and whole bananas and apples (maybe oranges--I don't remember either way). Bagels were pretty lame, but they had plenty of cream cheese and lox if that floats your boat. Several potato dishes (must be a California thing--we don't do potatoes to that degree here in Texas). Short fat little sausages. MONSTROUS bacon. Scrambled eggs. Made-to-order omelettes with a really big selection of fillers. Plus pancakes and Mickey waffles by request. I thought the food was excellent, but maybe I was just hungry. ;) First seating of the morning also ensured fresh, hot food--I'm sure that helped.

Storytellers has "woodsy" characters--no face characters here. In our 40 minute breakfast (we did NOT feel rushed, we were just through eating and interacting), we were visited at our table by Dale (did I mention DS's name is Dale??), Meeko, Terk, Koda and Kenai along with a CM in a forest ranger costume, Ranger Dave.

We were at the first scheduled seating (7am) and there were only about five families there when we were sat, and only about ten families when we left at 7:40. We never felt hurried, never had to ask or inquire about characters, and had FABULOUS service from our waitress and bus boy (whatever they are called these days).

I'm not sure if our timing was just great (first seating, park opened at 9 with no EE that day) or if Storyteller's always has such great character interaction and service. We aren't princess people (I'm the only princess in the bunch!), NEED to see Dale at any character meal (imagine a character with the same name as your child--you understand!), and didn't want to use precious "park" time to have a character meal. Storyteller's was the best option for us and we'll definitely return on our next visit!

Happy planning!

Thanks for the info so far. Do you need park admission to eat at the Plaza? Where is it? Do all the places need admission? What is the lunch food like at Ariel's?

Jenn

You do need park admission for the Plaza Inn, since it is IN the park (between Main Street and Tomorrowland)

You don't need park admission for Storyteller's and Goofy's, since they are in the hotels.

We did Goofys Kitchen in December. It was great. There was Chip and Dale (wonder why they weren't at Storytellers... ;) ) Goofy, Aladdin, Mary Poppins, Max, Baloo, and another big bear, can't remember his name.
They did the Macarena, and also banged the pots and pans together.
We were there at 10:30 on a friday. The interaction was OK. We were seated inside, by the door to the outdoor tables. I think if your kids are littler and show more enthusiasm, you will get more interaction. (at 10 and 7, my kids weren't as excited as the little kids at the next table!!)
The food was good. Made to order omelettes, bacon, ham, etc.. basic breakfast buffet. The desserts were soooo good. Cupcakes, apple crisp, rice krispie mickeys, tarts, cookies, and make your own ice cream sundaes. (and so much more!)
It was (I think) $24.95 per adult, and $14.95 per kid.

It is fun, I think it would have gone over better when my kids were younger.
(they did get up to watch the Macarena, but didn't with the pots and pans band)

Have fun! :earsgirl:
