Expired tickets

Hello everyone, I'm a teacher in Canada that bought Canadian tickets for last summer. We drive down and due to covid have been unable to use our tickets. I know DL gives you value when you buy your new tickets but everyone keeps saying reservations are here to stay (and with the Magic Key passes it appears true). My question is, when our passes expire in Dec, how will I book reservations for next summer? I am under the impression you need tickets to book reservations but I am also under the impression you need to go to the ticket booth to get your expired tickets credited to new tickets. I don't plan on driving down next summer (23 hours) just to not be allowed in as the parks are full!!!! Anyone have any ideas?

I would call/email guest relations and see if they can do something for you. You might have to be kind of persistent about it, but usually you can get to someone who can help you if you keep (nicely) escalating and have time for the right people to get back to you.

You are in a catch 22. I agree to be VERY nice to the CM . If they say no ( they will ). Call again to see if you can get some help. You have over 10 months to try.

I know it only kicks the can on your issue, but I think you can only make reservations 120 days out for tickets (and less for Keys) so i don't think you'd be able to make reservations for the summer in December anyways. So you have a lot of time.

Anyone have a good email that would work for this kind of thing?
I do. I got it from one of the 5 cm’s I’ve already spoken to about the matter. Lol I’ll try to remember to post tomorrow. I don’t have access to it right now. Remind me if I don’t post.

I have been trying to solve this same dilemma all day. I have tickets that were extended to December 2021 but we are going January 2022. Everyone just keep saying take them to the ticket booth because they hold their value and you can use them to upgrade to the new tickets. But I can't exactly just make a special trip to Anaheim to upgrade the tickets so that I can come home and make a park reservation. The last CM I spoke with today said just keep checking back because maybe they will extend the ticket expiration even further. But checking back so I can be on hold 2 hours at a time is not particularly magical.

I'm interested to see how this issue is resolved. My pre-Covid tickets have been extended until Dec 16, but we are going to the park Dec 19-23. I know the reservations will be open soon, but I don't know how to reserve it!

I have no advice, I'm only here to commiserate. I think Disney really missed the mark on taking care of guests with existing tickets. "Take care of it at the ticket booth" just doesn't fly with those of us who need to make travel plans. I ended up getting my existing tickets refunded last spring, and then buying tickets for WDW because the unknowns of how things would work out at DL were just too much.

One of the ladies on the phone said 1. We don’t know if reservations will still be around. 2. The tickets will just get extended again.
Nope, not satisfactory. So I need to talk to someone else.

TBH Bossy, at this stage I’d be asking for a refund and repurchase new tickets with a longer expiry date closer to your visit. Just tell them you can’t travel before your tickets expire as you are in another country.

Its pretty unlikely the parks will reach capacity during summer next year, I’ve only heard of that happening occasionally over the Memorial Day or July 4th Weekend. So reservations will likely still be available unless the reservation system dramatically reduces capacity. But I wouldn’t like to drive all that way and find no reservations are available so a refund would be what I would ask for.

Best of luck.

Thanks for sharing the info. I need to start this process. I have three 5-day park hoppers with Max Pass that expire mid-December as well. (Bought January 2020). We plan to go over Christmas time so we'll need to make reservations soon. Also, want to get the refund or credit for the Max Pass, which I know what discussed in another thread a while back and some folks got refunds on gift cards for Max Pass.

I also have a Canadian Resident ticket that expires December 16, 2021. I used the contact link on the DL website to bring up the issue, but received an e-mail directing me to use the chat function on the app instead. Which I did last night. I was very detailed about my concerns. I am OK with paying the price difference. I'm OK with upgrading at the ticket booth. What I am not OK with is uncertainty with the reservation system.

The official response (which was very timely) was that I should check back closer to the expiration date. So no help there.

I actually have an ABD SoCal adventure booked for February 2022 and I still can't get confirmation that Disney would secure our reservations prior to the tour. ABD adventures that include DL were cancelled until the end of the year. If our tour is cancelled (and I am hoping it won't be), we are going anyway and I want to be able to get the use of my unused ticket.

What Disney needs to do is ensure that there is some way for Guest Relations, or ticket booth CMs to override the system and allow upgraded tickets to secure same-day/next-day reservations. Disney wants to automate the system and they don't seem to grasp that there are many situations where automation fails. This seems to be an IT issue and I am at a loss as to why Disney won't simply work towards a solution and leave foreign guests to twist in the wind.

We have tickets for 3 upcoming trips. When the Magic Key was announced I was hoping I could apply all the tickets to the cost of the Magic Key. Sadly I was told I could upgrade the first ticket to the Magic Key while it was still valid but I couldn't add the additional tickets toward the Magic Key, so now we will have several tickets sitting in our account waiting to be used after they expire. :-(

It’s not just foreign guests. Anyone with an expired ticket can’t make a reservation? That’s going to be a lot of exceptions to be made over the next year. They need to implement something to help all of us. I don’t want to book a plane ticket with no reservation confirmation.
