Experienced Drivers - Please Help!

I'm taking my driving test for the 2nd time in about 3 weeks and I could really do with a bit of advice. My stumbling block is definately busy roundabouts. I failed a mock test today due to undue hesitation at a roundabout.

Has anyone got any tips or advice about how I can overcome this? I'm ok at most roundabouts but it's the really busy ones I have problems with.

It is hard to give somebody tips if you haven't actually seen them drive as I'm not sure whether your problem is due to nerves or not being prepared or something else.

However, these are the only tips I can think of:

Before you get to the roundabout, think about what lane you need to be in.

Once you have decided to go, just go! Unless of course it would mean causing an accident.

Try not to think too much about what the other cars are doing - be aware of them, yes, but don't concentrate too hard on them

If you find you can't come off at the exit you want (if you're on the inside of the roundabout and can't get acroos) just continue round until you can safely exit where you need to

There is only one thing to remember at roundabouts...give way to traffic on the right. That may seem obvious, but its surprising how many so called "experienced drivers" dont seem to know this simple rule...hence the chaos that often ensues. Dont be too concerned about cars that arent coming from your right (be aware, obviously, but its the ones you need to stop or give way to that are your priority!).

Good luck! My DD is taking her test in a few weeks, so I can sympathise with your nerves

Whilst you need to ensure you're driving safely, don't forget that no-one else wants to have an accident any more than you do!

I agree with Wilma-bride's advice - once you've decided it's safe to go onto the roundabout, stay positive and commit yourself to it 100%. No dithering. Easier said than done, I know

Try and remain calm. Think about where you are going and what lane you need to be in to acheive that and always give way to traffic coming from your right.

A fellow learner here so no advice from me Joanne, just want to wish you loads of luck

My sticking point is reversing round corners! I can do all other reversing, I can parallel park, turn in the road, even park in a bay (which my driving instructor assures me is just the same as reversing round corners) but, I don't know, add a corner and a kerb and I seem to loose the plot

It all comes down to how you perform on the day, so fingers crossed you have a really good day.
