experience with Turbo Tax?

TurboTax Deluxe Federal and State (allows you to download 1 state) is currently $39.99 at Amazon.

I've used it for many years and love it.

I've never used anything but TT. I will agree that certain stocks took me some time to figure out on there a few years ago but I was able to figure it out. No problems here either (knock on wood;0)

i used it online for the last three years. before that a family member had the software and did it for free. i have to file federal and two states. i get a refund from one state and end up owing to the other. it is super easy to get all three done and to me worth the money. i like that it goes step by step and saves my details from the year before so when i got online now i just confirm (including my w2s since it has my companys info to just electronically load in). the earlier you use the online the cheaper it is. for the two states and federal it came out to $112, last year it was 130-140 i think.

We have used turbo tax in the past but last year decided to use Tax Act. Same return, only paid $17.95. The refund amount was identical to turbo tax.

I used to use Turbo Tax, but switched to H&R Block a few years ago. Our returns have become complicated and H&R Block's software seems to do a better job.

I use it every year but my returns are simple 1040ez with student loan interest... I have always bought it and downloaded the state (Va) BUT I never pay the additional $$ to file the state taxes. I only file my federal with it. I can still use it to print my state forms, filled out and I can drop these forms along with a copy of my W2 to my commission of the revenue office and they file the state return for free...

It just depends on if you like a hard copy (disk) or if you are ok with a digital download. It is all the same software. With Amazon you can download now, where with a disk you have to go out and buy it.

I ordered TurboTax Deluxe Federal + E-File + State 2012 on a disk from Amazon for $39.83. It looks like they have if for $39.99 now (Disk, Mac download or PC download)

What I do is use the free version to e-file my Fed return but don't use them for state. I file my state return on my state's free website. So I pay nothing to use TT.

The free version of TT doesn't hand-hold you as much and may not have certain forms for more complex situations, but it doesn't look like you have anything out of the ordinary.

You can try the free version and upgrade later if you want to.

We have used Turbo Tax for years. Last year after purchasing it as a returning customer in what was supposed to be cheaper ended up costing us more than I saw at the retailers. I was quite upset with that as we have been very loyal to TT.

This year we have decided to go with the free tax act online and was quite happy with our decision. They too have versions that you can purchase and you can add on the state form for $15. We chose to add the state and both our federal and stated taxes are not only done but have already been accepted today (which is the same day I completed the taxes). I saved a pdf copy of our taxes on our home computer just as I would have with Turbo Tax all while saving money.

We've used the online version for years, and I've recommended it to others as well. I really like that all I have to do is update it with the new information for the most part.

One thing I've learned is that it pays to do some searching for codes to use. In the past the discount through the link on Fidelity (you don't have to be a customer) has generally been the best. I haven't looked yet this year but will be soon.
