Headin off to our favorite place again in less than 2 weeks :Pinkbounc

Can't wait to try expedition everest....one problem....9yob is scared of what he is imagining - a giant drop that is sure to end in tragedy....6yog is fearless and can't wait. I can't imagine Disney creating a ride so scary that allows a tall 5yo to go on, but wondering your opinions and those of your children....TIA....YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!

EE is a really fun ride. THere is only one big drop, and you can show you son it when you are there at AK. The tracks come out of the mountain into the drop, which is right there where everyone watches. Its not a huge drop, but he can check it out for himself. My 13 year old is a chicken, and there are some parks we go to and she just refuses to ride the coasters.. too high, to fast, your feet hang down... but she rides and loves all the coasters at Disney.. Expedition Everest, Rock'n Roller Coaster and Space Mountain. EE is differnet. I dont want to give away spoilers, but its not your average roller coaster.

I havent rode ExpeditionEverest yet but I saw a video of it on youtube. So maybe show your son a video?
Like go to www.youtube.com and put in expedition everest.

I am a big chicken on rides,especially at disney world.( :confused3 )
But this doenst look that bad,.I hate steep hills and theree is only one and right after that hill is a little drop,so I dont think he will mind. The thing he may notlike would be the yetti.

Sorry if this was confusing..Have a magical trip! :wizard:

slight shift in the subject - I know on a couple other forums, "Expedition Everest" has picked up the abbreviation "ExE", so that it doesn't get confused with "early entry", which some folks still use. Has "EE" become the standard here on the Disboards? (I usually hang out at "resorts" and "transportation", so I don't follow "attractions" nearly as much.)

As for the original question - if your son really decides he doesn't want to ride, pressuring him or forcing him to ride could be a really bad idea. I had an experience like that with a boy about that same age on Tower of Terror a few years back. Mom and little sis really wanted to ride, son didn't. So they basically guilted him into riding. He was so convinced it was going to be horrible that he was absolutely terrified.

If you can persuade him in advance that it'll be fun, that's a whole different stoy, of course.

Definately have your son check out the drop. Go to the viewing area to the right of the entrance. It's a great view of the drop. Lots of screams but also lots of laughter. He can see everyone on the train survives and continues on. I actually thought the drop was quite manageable and very smooth.

Personally, I think ExE is much smoother that BTMRR. The only thing you can prepare him for is that it goes backward. Sort of an odd sensation, but not scary.

We LOVE Expedition Everest. DS10 rode it in August - 3 times in one day. We just came home from WDW on Wednesday and we rode it twice on Tuesday. DS even had his arms up this time! It is VERY smooth. I have a bad back and it doesn't bother me at all, but I do hang on. ;)

There is one big drop, but it curves at the end so it isn't that horrible. DS hates ToT, but he would ride Everest all day. It is really a fabulous ride. The backwards in the dark part is a little freaky, but not horrible. :)

I would roughly compare the drop on ExE to the drop on Splash. The difference is that on ExE, it curves at the bottom. I'm pretty much a ride wimp, and I found it fun and fast, not at all terrifying.

I agree with the other posters that suggest you stand at the base to watch the drop. I also have a 9yr old DS and 6 yr old DD. DS will no longer ride Splash Mountain(because of the drop) but he does not mind EE...the drop does curve at the bottom which makes it less intense. By the way, my DD will also ride anything she is allowed on

Have fun...enjoy every moment!!!

we've been away from disney for a few years now. the kids have opted for univeral/islands of adventure. now we are going back to disney next month. my question is, i am a wimp, but rode mummy at universal, is there any comparison? which is worse? i can also ride BTTRR, but not R&R. should i ride this?

I love ExE. Very well themed and a great ride. I really don't think the drop is the scariest part. It's the backwards part that gets me...but it's not that frightening. I would agree that the drop is comparable to Splash. Oddly enough my favorite part is the view at the top - you can see Coronado, the Epcot resort area...it's beautiful.

The other good thing is it is a very smooth ride. Like the opposite of Space Mountain.

i went on EE in october, and i was SOOOO excited to ride it. However, im normally not a rollercoaster girl!

But when i saw that drop (80 ft) i started having second thoughts, but i convinced my self that this was the famous EE and there was no way i was going to miss it........

the drop was a piece of cake for me. it's really not that bad. ask to sit in the front because the drop is 80 ft and the train itself is 60 feet so by the time train gets over the hill you (in the front) only have the last 20 feet to go (and that's where it starts curving).

I hope that made sense!

ENJOY EE!!!!

My DD8 loves BTMR so she tried EE this trip. She loved it. She doesn't like big drops either, but the one in EE isn't that bad. Like people said it curves at the bottom so you don't feel it in your stomach as much. EE is much smoother than BTMR. Not jerky at all.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the responses!!!! DS won't be nearly as scared now, especially when i show him the video...too cool! :)
