I was very much looking forward to going on this ride on December, but the more I read about it the more anxious I am becoming. I have read that it goes through very dark areas, which I can just about handle, but I need to know are there any areas that have strobe lighting or lighting that makes it appear that you are going faster than you actually are e.g. the end of the ride on Buzz Lightyear in MK?

Thanks

Theres no strobe lighting like that on Everest, there are a few dark bits but not for very long till you're whizzing back out into daylight. You should be fine :thumbsup2

But I have to say there's nothing like this on Buzz either.

Is the OP talking about the slow approach thru the "spinning" shafts of light that appear in the fog effect?

Other than the few flashes that you see when they are taking the photos of guests that are for purchase, what stobe "motion effects" are used in Buzz?

I think that probably is what the OP is talking about, although I probably had it in my head as equal to the tunnel on Space Mtn :p Not the same I know. Anyway, Everest should be ok for someone light sensitive,

Hi

Thanks for your posts, I was referring to the end of the ride and the light, I hate the feeling of going faster than I actually am.

I will give Expedition Everest a try as it does look great fun

It's worth attempting and I think you will actually enjoy it.

I guess overall the worst bit is when it goes backwards through the dark bit - but that lasts around ten seconds at the most.

It's not super-fast like other rollercoasters and clearly good fun. It reminded me at times of Thunder Mountain in Disneyland Paris, so, if you have been on that than you know exactly what I'm talking about.

You won't get that 'faster than you really are' going on Everest, but be aware in case speed is an issue for you, EE is very very fast. You're going to feel as though you're going fast.

Can you describe exactly what area and light your talking about in Buzz?

The "rotating light shafts" are not at the end of the ride.
And really that is not designed to make you feel like you are going faster than you actually are, it was an effect that was intended (originally it was used in a couple fo airline-based attractions in this same space) to simulate the rotating fins of a jet engine.

There WAS a "high-speed simulation" effect in the former airline-based rides (If You Had Wings, et al) that took place in that LONG oval-shaped room that NOW is filled with stars and a projection of Emperor Zurg's ship that flies around.

As for the stobes for the digital camera that ARE at the end (almost) of the ride, they are not designed to make you feel like you are going faster than you actually are, they just flash once, every few seconds, as each car slowly passes the camera... its a genuine photo flash.

I agree, on both Buzz and Space, those lighting effects can be a bit disorienting, but that is their purpose, confuse the eyes/mind. Reminds me of the psychedelic clubs of the mid 60's, but I guess that is dating me, LOL.

You should be fine on EE, fairly fast, maybe 20 seconds tops going backward in the dark. Give it a try, you will enjoy I bet.

I'm pretty much a roller coaster wimp, and I LOVE EE! It's fast (done too soon!) and fun (watch the track flip as you've stopped after going backwards!) and always leaves me wanting to go on it just one more time. Actually, if you ride in the front, you may not find it to go so fast--there seem to be more pauses.
Enjoy! :sunny:
