Expedition Everest Race--A few questions for folks who ran last year

Hi everyone,
I've been on DISboards for awhile but only recently discovered this community! I used to be a runner (can't do it anymore b/c of hip problems ); my husband runs and did the Race for the Taste last Oct. and loved it.

We're going back the weekend of the EE Race, and DH would love to do the race. But, we already have multi-day passes with PH, so we really don't need the ticket. Someone on another thread mentioned selling their ticket--how would one do that? When do you get this ticket (at packet pick-up, earlier in mail, etc.)?

Other question is, DH would be a "single." If you're not on a team, is that an issue, will he have a hard time with the scavenger hunt? If I'm there at the party thing at the finish line, can I help him with the scavenger hunt?

Me and DH did the Everest Challenge last year. I can't help you with the selling of the tickets as I can't even remember what we did with ours. As far as him doing it as an individual its possible - the individuals men and women started in the front corrals, then the teams - with the co-ed teams in the furthest corrals. As far as you being able to help him in the scavenger hunt - I am sure that is totally possible but I couldn't really answer. I did notice non-participants in the park when we were doing the scavenger hunt. You guys could sign up as a team and you can walk to 5k you don't have to run - the only thing is if you DH runs the 5k he would have to wait for you to finish the 5k before moving on to the obstacle course (which they told us if you are unable to do an obstacle you can go around - in other words you didn't even have to do it - we did all 4) then from there you go back into the park for the scavenger hunt. It is a really fun event - and bonus if you sign up as a team you both get party tickets.

I don't know about the extra tickets as I gave mine to friends. However as for individuals I am sure there would be others to help. Besides he will see a group of people all looking for the same clues. It isn't that tough, they are pretty easy.

It wouldn't be a problem at all.

Last year we got our park tickets at packet pick-up. I used mine, so I don't have any advice about selling.

I was hesitant about signing up as an individual, but in the end I had a blast with the race even by myself. Last year the teams definitely outranked the individuals. As stated earlier, the individuals started in the first corral. Then the remaining corrals (about 10?) were all teams. Depending on how fast your husband is, he may be finished with the race before you even enter the park. In fact, I believe I finished the obstacle course before some of the corrals even started their 5k. Last year the race started at 7pm and they didn't let family and friends into the park until 8pm. My boyfriend was disappointed that he wasn't able to see me cross the finish line, but the way they had it set up I'm not sure that he would have been able to see me anyway.

As for the scavenger hunt I was worried about it going in, but I didn't think the clues ended up being that hard. There's another thread asking about sample clues and I'll try to post some pictures of my passport there. My best piece of advice is to just be familiar with the layout of the park. Prior to last September my last trip to WDW was in 2002. I was so glad I had planned to visit Animal Kingdom earlier the day of the race. Otherwise I would have had more difficulty recognizing places shown in the clues and might have ended up covering more distance around the park then necessary.

We used our tickets so I don't know about selling them.

As for helping on the scavenger hunt, well, we were finished with the scavenger hunt before they let families in the park so if Dh is a single, he would be done well before you could enter the park.

This is true but there are still so many around that are looking for the same clue. Besides it is Disney, they won't make it to hard

I ran it by myself last year. It was a lot of fun. It was actually kind of nice because the single runners got to start first. We were done with the course before some of the teams even started. I was definitely able to do the scavenger hunt by myself. It wasn't too hard at all.

As far as the ticket goes, last year they were only good for EPCoT (or was it DHS?) or AK and they expired at the end of the week. I couldn't use mine, so I just handed it to someone in line as I waited for Expedition Everest. This year I heard the tickets are good until the end of the year. You could sell them if you wanted. They aren't tied to your name at all.
