Expedition Everest = Matterhorn?

Is the new roller coaster due to open in 2006 at AK the same thing (or very similar) to the Matterhorn at Disneyland? I guess from the planning DVD my DH and kids say the description sounds the same. Anyone know?

Don't know for sure, but I posted a similar question on another thread. All information that I have gotten so far sounds like it will be a lot like the Matterhorn, but not an exact copy.

From the construction, it looks much bigger than the Matterhorn.

The Matterhorn is more what I would call a kiddie ride. When I saw the construction of Expedition Everest, it looked like a serious roller coaster! It might "look" like the Matterhorn in the theme of the ride, but I think it will be much bigger.

From what I have read, Everest will have some portion of the ride where the train goes backwards. I believe the entire track is new and different from the Matterhorn. So I believe they are similar in that they are both coasters and both themed around a mountain, different in story and track.

Having just ridden the matterhorn in December, I certainly hope Everest is not the same track because it is pretty lame. I don't think the Imagineers would plan a new attraction based on a Disneyland attraction built decades ago. But what do I know.

I think from all I'v read and seen,it's a much more updated version of the Matterhorn. Bigger & Faster. I'm excited!

Except for the fact that both are mountains, feature Yeti and the cars run on steel rails, the Matterhorn and Expedition Everest are completely different attractions.

I remember walking into the MK in 1972 (Yikes, I'm old! ), looking around and thinking, "Where's the Matterhorn?" I actually thought they were still planning to build it there...
