I need to start exercising, and I don't want to buy a treadmill or join a health club. I was thinking of getting some videos. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm leaning towards pilates, but am open to anything that isn't too streneuos, lol.

A lot of people like the "Walk Away the Pounds" videos and the Firm videos.

Two good places for more info: DIS's WISH board and videofitness.com

I bought denise austin's personal training system. It is wonderful you get to customize your workout You can choose low, medium or high intensity.

It includes really fun & easy cardio workouts!! and also gives you recipes!

I quit my gym membership & just use this!

Plus, the best thing is its only $10 @ Barnes & Noble!!!

I highly reccomend it!! If you also want to diet, I also recommend her book How to shrink your female fat zone. Its a book that has workouts & eating menu which is great!

I do Winsor Pilates and Walk Away the Pounds 1 and 2 mile videos. I really like the Winsor Pilates and can really feel a difference in my abs, thighs, and butt. I have about 6 of those videos. The Walk Away the Pounds videos are great. I was worried because I have some knee problems but have been able to do these. In the last 4 weeks I have lost 7 lbs and my clothes fit a lot better due to toning up.

I belong to a parenting board and we have a group who do both of these. Two of the ladies lost weight and changed their bodies completely in a year. They were both invited by Mari Winsor to be in her next info-mercial. They are in Hollywood right now filming it. So I'm a huge Winsor Pilates fan.

I also do yoga and jump on my daughter trampoline just for something different. Having toning exercises (yoga and pilates) and cardio (walking, cycling, running, etc) will help lose weight and tighten it all up.

I do the Winsor Pilates, and loe it! If I keep at it, I really notice a difference.

I highly reccommend the library! Check out a few, find one that fits your needs, and then you can buy it! I remember Billy Blanks popular video/dvd, I checked out that series, and found it just didnt fit, so I feel I saved lots of money that way... I did try and then invest in the Walk Away the Pounds (WATP) dvd... right now I've been fascinated with the exercise ball, and I'm looking for a dvd...

:hourglass

I love the Firm! You can get their videos and equiptment (step or weight stick) at Target and sometimes Wal-Mart. I have lost 35 pounds since I started (again) at the end of December. I have used their videos on and off since 1991 and I have yet to find anything that matches the quality. :cheer2:

If you have Netflix you can always try different videos out. I don't like buying without trying so that is what I do and right now I am on a yoga rotation because I am pregnant and I need to de-stress.

I also second Walk Away the Pounds, but eventually you would want to challenge your body more if you want to make more progress physique-wise. Either change your routine around (rotate them), increase strength or cardio or both, etc.

There's different Pilates videos/DVDs, like Stott, Windsor, Quick Fix, etc. There's also videos/DVDs which concentrate on strength, some for cardio, some with a combo of strength and cardio such as The Firm and Slim Series, and specialty workouts like power yoga or rebounding (using a bouncer).

Be sure to check out www.collagevideo.com which is a reputable store and shipping is quick plus their website includes sample clips. There's also www.videofitness.com for reviews and a forum. I always refer folks to these 2 websites because there are a lot of exercise videos/DVDs out there.

HTH and GL!

My mom is a nutritionist and only uses videos- she has shelves of them to recommend to people. If you want her email address I am sure she could suggest exactly what you are looking for. If you have any questions for her (not just on videos) she could answer those too. PM me for it-

Good Luck

We get a channel called fitTV that comes with our normal cable package. It has a show called breathing space yoga which my boyfriend and I used to do like every day. They switched the show to 6am so we don't do it anymore (it used to be on at 5:30 PM!) but you could possibly tape it at six if you're not a morning person. It's a really good show to start and it's not 'competitive' at all, you don't feel like you're trying to BEAT anyone out at yoga.

tricia.

I love Denise Austin, especially her newer things. I went from NEVER exercising to doing it 5x a week for going on 3 years now. I've never felt healthier! I even exercised right up until the day my daughter was born. My favorite thing to do is tape the Daily Workout which is on Lifetime channel from 7:30-8:00(EST). That way it's something a little different every day.

I've been faithfully walking and running on my treadmill 6x a week since October, and I've lost some pounds, but I really need something different to mix things up a bit. I've been considering the Walk Away the Pounds videos. I have an on-line friend from a parenting board who has lost over 100 lbs doing the WATP and Weight Watchers. I'm inspired!!

Anyone have any comments on the WATP videos and which ones are best for the hips, thighs and rear end??

The Original series of Billy Blanks Taebo was a good one for me. If I kept at it, I really noticed the difference. My issue is the motivation. I have Winsor Pilates and I must say I did feel a difference after a couple of sessions, but I found it to be very uncomfortable on the back...not muscularly, but in a bruising sort of way.

I agree with previous posts...try the library and see what is available to take for a test.

I also learned about WATP videos from a parenting board from friends who lost weight. :) I do the WATP 1 and 2 mile videos. I found them at Wal-Mart on a $5.96 rack (on the bottom). I really enjoy them. I use 2lb weights instead of the weighted balls she talks about. Leslie Sansone is a really good motivator. In the last month since I started do them (plus Pilates) I have lost 10lbs and feel a lot better. Good luck! :cheer2:

with Winsor Pilates, a lot of people have that problem at first. I think a lot of it has to do with rolling like a ball and other things that you do on your back. It does go away. I've found that I now "feel" my abs which is something I've never felt...lol! I walk taller with my stomach in and my shoulders squared. I have been doing them seriously for the last month and can't believe the results I have gotten from doing them 3-5 times a week (along with Walk away the pounds).

It's funny you all mention going to the library for videos b/c mine doesn't offer exercise videos. That's the first place I tried before I bought mine.

I have been doing Walk Away the Pounds for a year and a half now. I alternate between the 1, 2 & 3-mile workouts. I also have her Pilates workout, which is great when I keep at it!! My daughter bought me Leslie Sansone's Walkblaster system, which consists of the walkblaster, the walk-away weights, and three DVDs. I also walk 50 minutes some days in the park so I vary between the 8 DVDs and regular walking. I love the original WATPs. I also alternate between 2-pound weights and the walk-away weights. I feel like I am in my best physical shape ever (at 52!!).

I currently alternate between the Weight Watchers Fast Track videos and a Denise Austin Power Zone workout. The Weight Watchers is alot easier and was a good starting point for me. I just recently started with Denise Austin's video when I had plateaued with my weight loss. As you can see with my ticker below - I have lost 32 pounds :earsboy: since the begining of February with the use of following my on modified Weight Watchers eating plan and using these videos. I also walk at a local outdoor walking track when the weather is permiting and I have the time to get there.

I do find the Denise Austin video to be a more advanced workout and she moves at a fast pace through most of if. I paid about $10 for the video which came with a resistance band at Wal-mart. I thought it was a good deal. :)

Thanks for all the great suggestions. My library had a small selection, nothing good. I think I'm going to go with Walk Away the Pounds & Winsor Pilates. My sister has a large selection of videos, so I'm going to see if she has these. I think I'll check out Ebay if she doesn't have what I'm looking for.

I'll update on my progress if I actually make any. If not, I will disappear quietly from this thread. :cool1:

Imsayn, dont give up!! Look at all the successes here! WTG! Thanks for sharing!! I too have a serious need to get up and get movin, but I'm afraid to try!

Imsayn, if your library doesnt carry them, perhaps they are involved with an intralibrary loan program (most are) just ask at the information desk, find out why they dont have any - its your tax dollars that are giving them money to buy videos and dvd, and if there is a request, it does help them! If nothing else, it will give you some variety!

Also, thanks for the tips on the weights! (WATP!) I've been watching the infomercials and am thinking of getting that 'core' program with the exercise ball..

OH, and last but not least, dont forget the WISH board here at the DIs is very inspirational!!
