Okay, I read in the paper where people are using exercise balls as desk chairs in a successful effort to keep their abdomens firm. I bought one of the balls and have been sitting on it for 15 minutes...I don't notice any kind of effort in doing so. Is this one of those hours and hours things ? Background...I had a tummy tuck in September, w/ lipo, plus more lipo in that area last month...doctor threw it in for free...are my stomach muscles just tight, or am I doing something wrong ? I love the idea of gently exercising this area as I read the DIS boards or do real work.

I've seen where an exercise ball is built into a desk chair, but I've never heard of someone just sitting on the ball alone. It doesn't provide any support for your back. I wish I could remember the company that manufactures those chairs :scratchin

I've seen both. My old boss used to have the big bouncy ball and loved it, but not sure where to get it. I've also seen the one built into the chair (www.gaiam.com). I've wanted to get one or the other, but never got around to it.

You can get the big bouncy ball at a sports store (Dicks Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, etc.). Target sells them, too. They come in different sizes, and you'll want to buy on based on how tall you are.

LOL...All I could picture was "The Office" when Jim took his scissors and popped the ball Dwight was sitting on. :happytv:

Okay, it has been an hour now. Granted, when I roll back and forth I use some muscles to balance...but I really thought this should be more difficult. For those that have posted about no back support...that is why it works, you have to balance and use your stomach muscles. I do feel some soreness now...but unsure if that is lipo soreness or sore muscles. This would be wonderful if it really worked...my stomach looks great now, but I want it to stay that way. I'm a fan of natural exercise, the type that is built into your normal life. I do take loooong walks, and if sitting on an exercise ball would take care of the core muscles...woohoo, I can work up to pushups and I am done w/ the fitness thing.

When we were doing some sensory integration with DS13 one thing they recommended was a ball chair. There is a company that makes them and they have 3 little "feet" on them to help keep them from rolling around. It is supposed to help the kids sit better and concentrate more. A lot of schools are using them for ADHD kids these days.

They are great for your posture and your back. They make you sit properly or you fall over. I don't know that they do anything for your abs unless you are doing sit-ups on them while you are waiting for the server here to be less busy.

Me too! :rotfl2:

We have one of those exercise balls and I'm not sure about all the health/fitness benefits of it, but I do know that they're a heck of a lot of fun. :rotfl2: We're the family that would have our picture on the ball along with a disclaimer- This is NOT the proper way to use this exercise ball. :rotfl: :rotfl:
