Have always done excursions on the Eastern on our own. Don't know much about the Western though specifically being interested in Rum Point in Grand Cayman and something in Jamaica. One concern is being 2 women going on an excursion/taxi ride--don't know how far of a ride to get to excursion-- on our own. I know with Disney we would feel safe but it's always more cost effective booking these on your own. Would we be safe in Grand Cayman and Jamaica doing these on our own?

Also does anyone know if there is a way to book Rum Point or any excursions at the port in Jamaica by paying cash when we get there as opposed to having to book online with a credit card? Really want to pay cash and I don't think Disney offers anything to Rum Point?

Also open to any suggestions for an excursion probably to a beach in Jamaica or something where we could be in possession of our bags he whole time--ex.. I know with Dunns river falls or river tubing we couldn't carry our own bags while doing these. Mostly concerned about traveling a long distance to get to an excursion in a car with someone by ourselves...I'm sure there are some legit very nice cab/tour drivers but just a little nervous since it will be just the two of us. Thanks

I would double check being on the western and going to rum point - I am trying to find info on that and we don't seem to have enough time in port to go there. Our port time is 1030-530 native way even said there wasn't enough time. also figure in the tendering time/

Thanks...how far away is this from port???? I think our time is the same but wouldn't you have enough time if you just stayed a few hours????

Yes.
Follow the crowd to the Taxi area, then negotiate with the locals for a driver for the day.
Or a taxi if a short hop. Which is unlikely being in Falmouth. lol.
That is all within the port secured area. All theses drivers are licensed, tested, taxed, berated, questioned, searched, finger printed, etc, more so than here in the states fwiw.

Ask any of them even if you don't use them.

Falmouth, and other Jamaican ports get such a bad rap. :confused3

It's such a beautiful country to miss,

Ya knoo maan.

Dunn River Falls
Blue Hole
Martha Brae
Mystic Mountain
Etc.
and that's just a couple cool touristy spots.

Any of these drivers can offer you a wonderful Jamaican experience.

If you barter the day of, you may/should get a better price than booking in advance. Although you won't know your driver/vehicle in advance. However, you could always shop vehicle and driver while there, while inquiring about a ride. I would.
I always wanted to do this, but ,.....
Perhaps some day.

That is why we use use Steve when in town. He is awesome. He is a local family man. We have kids. He has kids. The first time our youngest was 4. Last time 9. This dude rocks. He is also huge and powerful, so .... and knows all the locals and port staff, so [/COLOR]

We used Noel "Steve" Smith a few times. He was great and has a great vehicle.

We've rented a Jeep twice in Grand Cayman for about $100 with all insurance included so we could do our own "excursion" to Rum Point. It takes about an hour to get there with traffic in Georgetown. Once you get outside of Georgetown, the roads that take you to Rum Point are pretty quiet, and there's nice places to pull off the road and take pictures on the way. If you have an existing reservation, you meet at a gift shop as soon as you get off the tender (The Blue Iguana, I think it's called). There you get a ride out to the airport to rent the Jeep. You could also get a regular car, but driving in the open air Jeep was more fun. Same thing on the return back. There's a gas station right by the airport where you can refill. I wouldn't attempt this adventure with fewer than five hours in port just because of the number of transitions, but it's a great trip if you've got a little more time by that.

Thanks so much everyone for the help and suggestion of Noel!!!...I will def try to contact him. Is there any beaches in Jamacia you would recommend?

Also what do any of you do if you go to duns river falls or blue hole ..where do you safely leave your belongings? Mostly concerned about cash we would have in our bags.....I can't see taking any bags while doing either one of these excursions with being in he water

When you have a private driver for the day you don't have to worry about your cash or valuables you have reason been only you guys are going to have access to the taxi for the duration of your tour.Therfore your cash and your valuables will be securely lock away in your taxi for the day.

My extended family used SNL Jamaican Tours to go to Blue Hole in June 2015 and Lindsay personally stayed with the van while we were out with the guides. I never once worried about my bag.

I did also purchase a KYSS bag so I had many options. When we went on a jet ski tour in Grand Cayman my sister and I both locked our KYSS Bags to a tree and no one even touched them.
