Looking for idea's for Grand Cayman to go to Stingray City. Go with Disney? Capt. Bryan? Any idea's would be great :cool1:
What about Couzmel? Beach Break? Mr. Sanchez? Love to hear your thoughts out their. :goodvibes

We used Native Way. It was excellent- Rum, Ray and Reef. You went to stingray city, snorkeled and then when to Rum Pt. beach. $55.

We went on the Western in May. If you are looking for something fun (without kids!) go to Carlos N Charlies. Its walking distance from the ship. It's a resturant/bar. We had a blast there! Make sure if you go there to order a shot from the shot girls walking around! ;)

Did you need towels for the beach part of tour or are they provided??

Hi!
We just stepped off the Western Magic yesterday! We did Captain Marvin's in Grand Cayman. I can't say enough good things. The folks who run it are super nice. It was a fabulous experience. My ds's 4-1/2 and 7-1/2 loved it too! We would absolutely do it again. Towels are not provided. You must bring your own from the ship.

After much research and debate we did Paradise Beach in Cozumel.

Good points:
chairs and umbrellas
great service
easy as pie to get to and from ($15 cab ride for 5 people each way, $13 for 4)
excellent amenities (water trampoline, floating ice berg, floats)
cheap $5 for the kids to play on the stuff in the water $0 for us
5 beers for $12 (Dos Equis XX)

Bad points:
no gradual decline into the ocean - there is a drop off which made it hard for my 4-1/2 year old play/swim
rocky bottom

Despite the bad points we would do it again. Our kids loved it and have already asked to go back.

Let me know if you have questions.

Hi, there. We have also just returned. We really enjoyed our trip to Stingray City. We booked with Captain Marvin's on our own (very easy to do) to save money and go with a smaller group. It takes maybe five minutes to walk over to the meeting place. Once you get off the ship and reach the main street, cross it, go left and you'll be there before you know it. You will board a shuttle (clean and cool) that holds maybe 20 people. It might stop at a couple resorts to pick up other passengers. The driver will give you a mini tour on the way to the boat. The first mate will introduce the staff which includes a videographer (?) who tapes the excursion and will sell you the tape or dvd of the excursion for fifty (video) or sixty-five (dvd) dollars. That includes shipping in the US. We felt very relaxed on this excursion. The staff was friendly and took good care of everyone from youngest to oldest.

Speaking of youngest, our children (10,7, and 4) enjoyed the boat experience but were a little freaked out by the sting rays and snorkelling experience. Even though they've seen rays many times at the aquarium, they had never been in the open ocean or used a snorkel before. Probably, most kids have a blast, but be mentally prepared in case it's not the case. My dh was surprised and disappointed that his sons didn't love it as much as he would have at their age.

Cozumel - The dune buggy tour - Since shopping was not a priority to us, I booked a dune buggy tour that was scheduled from 10:30 - 4:30. Three out of five of us (dh, 7 yr old son and 4 yr old daughter) had a blast. They loved tearing through the "jungle" path in a noisy, open buggy. It was the thrill of a lifetime. They couldn't get enough. Oldest ds and I would have liked more time on the beach and less time in a vehicle.

I'm going to be cautious about reccommending this excursion because it's not for everyone. Someone in your party is going to be doing a lot of driving over some challenging terrain. Not to mention, whoever drives is going to have to drive through the busy streets of Cozumel on the way out and back. Once on the "trail", which is most of the day's excursion, everyone's going to get bumped and thumped around and everyone's going to get covered in dust. These buggies are poorly maintained. They run but there are no seat belts, no radio to contact the guide in the front jeep in case you have a problem (and that did happen on our tour), it's not easy to keep the car in first gear (which is essential during the "sand traps") and the tires are near bald which means there are at least three spots in which deep sand could (and probably will) mire the buggies. In all three trouble spots, at least two of the five buggies got stuck in the sand and the guides had to push the car out.

The stops on this tour are: the beach where you can swim, snorkel (they provide gear) and eat the yummy lunch they prepare; the ruins of a Mayan light house, and at the end, before you return to the city, a cluster of ramshackle shops, a restaurant and some other building whose purpose I don't recall where you can shop, eat, and use the restroom. Also, before you leave for the city, the photograph taken of you at the beginning of the tour is available for 15.00. I didn't ask if that was negotiable. Might be.

If you are big on cleanliness, comfort and ease this is not the tour for you. You spend a lot of time in the buggy and the ride is loud, fast-paced, often bumpy, and dirty. (who says that isn't fun??) Whoever drives has to be able to handle city traffic, sand traps, dodging countless rocks on the trail, and basically be on his/her toes. On the other hand, the scenery was great (although there was A LOT of trash near the trail, on the beach and out where we were snorkelling. I don't know if it had anything to do with last year's hurricanes or not), the cold drinks (water, soda, beer) and delicious lunch were plentiful. The guides were hardworking. They had to be with all the times one of us got stuck in the sand.

How did you book it??

We were on the Western 3/26 sailing. What a great trip it was - a very smart person once said "reality bites". In Key West we did an "on your own" thing. There are these little electric golf carts all over the place. We rented one for 4 or 5 hours and drove all over the place. Drove out to the Southernmost Point, all around town, it was great fun and our kids (16 & 15) both thought it was a greta way to spen the day.

In Grand Cayman we did the 7 mile sail, swim and snorkle (I think that is what is called) through Disney. Out on a big catamarran about 7 miles, swimming and snorkling with the stingrays and other fish and such. Alot of fun and a bargain ($40 per person). We also were able to experience an excursion that came as part of our cruise- it was called the "tendering process". The water was a little rough at the pier- you might say getting back to the ship was just like an E-ticket at Disney World. :rotfl2:

But the absolute highlight of the excursion part of our trip was in Cozumel. We did the Tropical Jeep Safari through Disney. :cool1: :cool1: It was great fun. First, a little drive through Cozumel - the guides do a great job making sure no one gets lost or left behind. Out of town you drive a little distance - make aquick stop at the Pee-Pee Station (no kidding that is what it is called) then on out to toward the beach and some off road fun. About 45 minutes and you reach a small Mayan ruin, spend a little time there then back in your Jeep Wrangler drive about 30 minutes back towards the main road. Then you stop for a Beach Buffet (fajitas, chips salsa, etc...) spend about 1 hour on the beach. Back in the jeep, back to the road, stop at the Pee-Pee Station, back to town. EXCELLENT - EXCELLENT - EXCELLENT!!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Our guides Rene and Neene were very funny and made the whole experience great. Again, it was a bargain at $85 per person. Try it you'll love it!!

Uncle Al, how much did the electric golf cart cost to rent in Key West? Was it easy to get around and park?

Hi,

We did Capt. Marvins in July and they were the best excursion we took. We were on a boat with 6 other people so it wasn't crowded. We also got a lot of time to interact with the stingrays. We did the shorter excursion and they took us to a spot to snorkel. It was beautiful. They were so nice and offered a lot of information about the islands and the sea life. We spoke with people who did the ship's excursion and they said it was very crowded and that they got little time to interact with the stingrays. You can not go wrong with Capt. Marvins.

Have a Great Trip!

Bumping! :bounce: :bounce: I would also love to know how much the electric cars cost, and where Carlos & Charlie's is at??

Thanks! :sunny:

ltviolets- Did you end up doing the Pirate Cruise? If so, how was it? Would 4 & 5 yo's be interested in it?

webray- I would love to hear more about the tour you described in Grand Cayman. Did you register for it before the cruise? Who was it with and what was the cost?

Thanks for any help!! :teeth:

We did the electric cars at Key West. We walked around before we found one (a couple of blocks away from the pier) and it was about $95 for 2 hours, with the 3rd hour free. I don't remember the company.

I think Carlos & Charlies is at Cozumel

Charlos and Charlies is definitely in Cozumel and Definitely worth a couple of hours! It's a blast. The longer you stay, the more you'll get involved and love it. (PS Don't miss the ship!)

We did the Dune Buggy trip as well (don't get this confused with the jungle jeep trip, one is in dune buggies, one is in regular jeep/road vehicles.)
We did the Dune Buggies and absolutely LOVED it! We would definitely do it again, but we are very adventerous, and my husband loves to drive crazy off-road, so this was a perfect trip for us. Ours ran from 10:30 am till 5 pm.
Food at the beach was fresh and made right there, snorkeling was great ~ though a long swim out....take a life vest with you, they do not provide. I didn't need one, but my husband wished he'd had one. I can give you more details if necessary.

We had the best day on Cozumel of our entire DCL trip.
