Hey all,

I just wanted to come here in case there were any Meerkat Manor fans lurking on the message boards...we are very excited about the premier of Animal Planet's first feature film, called "Meerkat Manor - The Story Begins"!

The Meerkat Manor movie is premiering in 10 days (May 25th) on Animal Planet, rather than a theatrical release as originally planned. It did make it to the Tribeca film festival though!

The full-length feature film (Oxford Scientific Films/South Star) follows the real-life adventures of the "Whiskers" family of Meerkats. The movie documents Flower’s incredible journey from birth to matriarch of the Whiskers mob. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, the film traces the transformation of Flower from a young, inexperienced meerkat into a remarkable leader who puts her family above all in the fight for survival in one of the harshest deserts on the planet.

We are very excited about this movie, and it is the first full-length picture to actually premier on one of our networks! Anyone who follows Meerkat Manor knows how lovable Flower was and how devastating her death was. This movie is our tribute to Flower

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Meerkat Manor. I bawled my eyes out when Flower was killed. My DH woke up wondering what was wrong. I thought his eyes were going to get stuck in the back of his head when he realized I was crying over a meerkat.

Is the movie different than the shows? I saw a commercial for it the other night but I wasn't sure if it was an actual movie or just a compilation of many episodes. Either way, I will definitely be watching it. I can't wait!!!!!!!

I believe the movie is based on the book Meerkat Manor - The Story of Flower of the Kalahari (which we bought last year), which essentially is a telling of the story of the Whiskers from the perspective of Flower, as she grows up, becomes the most successful alpha in the recorded history, and eventually dies. Of course, the footage used is the same as for the series; I do suspect that the footage will be recut and/or re-mastered, since it is covers in about 75 minutes what the series covered over 15 hours, plus what happened before Flower became alpha, which wasn't featured in the series.

This will be our first opportunity to see Meerkat Manor in HD (I hope).

Meerkat Manor returns with new episodes, continuing the story of the Whiskers led by Rocket Dog and Maybelline, starting June 6.

I'll have to wait for the dvd because I don't have cable. That Flower was a class act.
