OK, this is a BIG problem. The Excel file on which I keep ALL my eBay stuff is stuck on a floppy. Whenever I try to open it, Excel shuts down. Tried to see the properties and it took out Explorer and I had to restore my active desktop. Tried to copy it from the disk to my hard drive and I get "The system cannnot read from the specified device." I have other Excel files on the disk that work fine. And I just tried running a recovery, but the recovered files won't open either. :( Is there ANY possible way to get this file open again??

Signs point to no...

The one bad thing with using a floppy disk is that they break quite easily. All it takes is a pass by a magnet, or a little rough housing, and the disk can be damaged. Once they are damaged, it is almost impossible to recover any discernible data.

If you can get the file off the disk, you can attempt to fix the corrupt file with software. I'd have past success with:

Good luck!

I agree that you're probably out of luck. And it's probably more the disk than the file itself. The file may be corrupt, too, but it doesn't matter since your disk is bad.

*sigh* Thanks for the help. I was able to get all but three of my files off the disk. I have the paperwork necessary to replicate the data on two of the files, but not the eBay one. But I figure I can start fresh from that one. Stupid computers! Oh, and thanks, hyzdufan, for the link, but $90 to fix three files is not in our budget!
