Examples of Disney's attention to details?

I've never been on a Disney cruise YET! We are going on a B2B in August. I'm obsessed I tell you – OBSESSED. I read this board at least 20 times a day (don't tell my boss) - I'm on the DCL website every morning , I'm on Disney Store.com looking for fun stuff to buy for our cruise and I read everything I can find about DCL. I'm obsessed. OBSESSED I TELL YOU!

I have to tell you that the #1 thing I am impressed with the MOST is Disney's attention to detail. I've been to Disneyland (1988 as a lowly Navy recruit); To Disneyworld at least 20+times and now at the ripe old age of 44 I'm going on my first Disney cruise. My 3 boys, the oldest being 20 has been to Disney 12 times, my middle son who is 10 has been 4 times and my youngest son Brady has been 3 times. Obsessed - OBSESSED I tell you!

I chose DCL over all the other choices because simply THEY CARE ABOUT ME AND MY FAMILY!

SO - the reason I post this thread is to say that in all my reading and preparation for this upcoming cruise the one thing about the cruise that impersses me the most (so far) is that DCL announces the family name when you board the ship. I've been on 3 prior cruises (2 with Carnival and 1 with RCCL) and this small detail is by far the clearest indication that you are in for a different kind of cruise. The fact the DCL thinks so much of its GUESTS (NOT customers) that they proudly announce your arrival on board is telling me (and everyone in earshot) that they are excited I'm sailing with them! Think about if you went to a wedding or party and they announced your arrival. You would think WOW, thank you!

So this makes me curios-

What are some other examples that DCL pays such close attention to details that you have noticed?

The background "elevator" music you hear in the hallways of the ship is often (usually) Disney music.

The ship's fog horn plays "when you wish upon a star."

Disney got special permission from the coast guard to paint the life boats the same color as Mickey's shoes.

If you're on the Dream check out the décor in Remy (even if it's closed) and see all the Remy-type details.

If you're taking the DCL transfer bus to/from the ship, they play Disney videos. The windows of some of the buses look like portholes to match the ship.

when the ship pulls out of the Port Canaveral dock, the cast members who checked you in are waving good-bye, with huge Mickey-Mouse gloves.

Oh and for anniversary celebrations (even early ones, they don't know and don't care) you get a nice lil choc mouse cake and sometimes it has Mickey sprinkles on it and sometimes other details, but they always come with a nice HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Disney Pins, two of em. I've been carrying one of them on my purse every where.

Which reminds me. Happy 10th to me and my honey today!

I had a good time on my cruise, it was a short 3-night, but nothing stands out as being great or horrible; as PP said, the elevator music did catch my attention, that was cute and the character painting in the glass elevator shafts. My daughter loved the Princess Meet and Greets though. I liked the trams on CC. I can say, I had no idea who my stateroom attendant was the entire time. No complaints about the room, but he or she never introduced themselves to me; I found that odd.

The paint brushed shaped butter knives in AP, the carriage shaped bread baskets in RP, the ketchup on my son's plate in the shape of a mickey head, the lid on my son's soda where the server has written his name and drew a mickey head, the "sleepy" chocolates at turn down, the yellow mickey ears at the terminal in PC, the "night sky" above the drop down bunk, the hidden mickeys all over the ship, I could go on and on. Enjoy your cruise.

We had cruised DCL a few times before we took a NCL cruise in Hawaii. When we got on the ship my daughter said, "Hey, they forgot to announce out name!" I told her I guess they don't do that on NCL. She said simply, "Hmmmph!"

My favorite 'detail' is the ship's horn on Magic playing 'when you wish upon a star'....instead of the typical fog-horn sound of a most ships whistles. When we pulled into port in Cozumel there was a Carnival ship dock on the opposited side of the dock from us. We were on our veranda and you could actually hear people on the Carnival ship talking...and they were ooooing and aaahhhing over the Disney ship as we slowly docked. I could hear people say "Wow." "Cool!" And then we stopped....and they sounded the ship's horn! "When you wish upon a star!" and the Carnival ship's passengers went nuts and erupted in applause and cheering! It was soo cool! It was obvious they were envious. We just grinned....happy to be sailing on a Disney ship!

Gotta love the Ships horn, it's the Best.... Always a Great Way to kick off your cruise.

On the Dream in the Enchanted Garden dining room they have these chandeliers shapped like flowers....and they slowly 'bloom' and open up their pedals! I thought that was way cool as I've never seen a light fixture open up like that. It was one of those 'details' that Disney is known for.

^^^You nailed it for me ^^^ I always say, "it's the little things" and with Disney/DCL sometimes they are small things but other times they are more noticeable. I appreciate the attention to detail they give to everything whether it be the door knobs on the desk or the bigger items like the beautiful fixtures in the Royal Palace and the Royal Court. The details are there so take your time to soak it all up and look around and enjoy them!

The public bathrooms, by the theatre, Palo etc.....are gorgeous.....
I would say everywhere you look there is something special to look at.


Going back to Palo two years later and having your previous server recognize and remember you. And then treat you like you were family......thanks Andrea from Croatia.....we love you!

On the classics, we enjoy the metal border that goes around the atrium. It has Disney characters performing the duties of the various occupations on the ship. Cool attention to detail!

Attention to detail is not only in the ship's ammenities but with the ship's personnel. Example:

Completed a 4-day Dream trip in October 2011. My youngest DS (okay he's 30) had never been on a cruise or even outside the country except for Canada. We had stopped in Nassua and did the sea lion excursion. When we came back it had started to drizzle. Despite my recommendations, he really wanted to walk into Nassua to see the town (FYI - he was extremely disappointed) and since his girlfriend did not want to go out in the rain I went with him. During our walk into town it was drizzling/raining and with the sun going down it had started to get a bit cool. There was a bus shuttle offered from the main building to take us to the Dream and other passengers to an italian ship docked across from us. As we exited the shuttle and made our way up to the gang plank we were greeted by CM's offering us warm towels to place around our necks until we could get through security. My DS looked across and realized that the Italian ship's passengers did not receive that type of attention. That small little point sold him on Disney cruising!

On our July 2011 dream cruise, CM passed out sanitizer paper towels for everyone who enter cabana, and other restaurants to eat. When at Nassau port, I were at my stateroom looking at people coming back to the ship, they are also greeted with sanitizer paper towels. Freedom of the ship docked right next to the dream, and I didn't see them getting anything to wash their hands.

This is a perfect example of how the whole cruise I will be thinking "Wow we really have it great!"

It makes me wish I could take my boys on a "regular" cruise before going on a Disney cruise. I'm wondering if I'm ruining them for anything else. LOL

I'll be like my parents the whole cruise...saying..."You just don't know how good you have it!!"

I can remember the whole time we were in WDW my boys and I would say "Oh wow look at THAT".

One of the memorable things they still talk about is the Mousachussetts pennant that hung is Mickey's house. Anyone know what I'm talking about? We are from MA so it stuck with us.

As PP mentioned how the CM's at the terminal wave goodbye to you as you pull out of PC, CM's also wave to you as you pull out of CC - with their large Mickey gloves on - and on 4/12/13 as we were leaving CC, the CM's "took a bow" also. It was very cool...and made me a little emotional.
I don't know how to describe it, but it's just so "Disney". Everything you'd expect from Disney, and more. The trip itself was great but by far my favorite part was how every CM seemed to go out of their way to make sure you felt like royalty and that you had the time of your life. All of that made the reality of coming back home SUCK really badly. HAHA. (no joke though...cuz it did)
