Evidently MS can modify a reservation without canceling/re-booking now?

I just cut a night from an August stay (saving the points and adding a few nights at Universal for the discounts there), and MS was able to modify my existing reservation rather than needing to cancel it and rebook.

My impression from these boards was that I would run some risk of one of the nights becoming unavailable while she was processing my request, but evidently that's not the case?

Maybe this is new, or maybe I was misinformed previously.

This was always possible without rebooking whole reservaiton if the nights you drop were at the begining or end of your resrvation. It was only when you wanted to drop a night from the middle that the reservation would need to be rebooked and was subject to availability at the time you were making the change. -- Suzanne

I did read somewhere on the boards that MS can now put a hold on the room while doing the work to cancel etc. I think that it is a fairly recent change.

Yes, I booked a room at AKV in conceirge for Christmas and when I pulled it up on the member site, it said 0 points. I was making another reservations the next day and asked why it said 0 points. She put me on hold and then told me they had canceled my reservation but put the room on hold for me until IT could fix it. It did not show on my reservation for 3 days but when I called MS this morning they told me it was showing up again...:confused3

Anyone actually have this happen while making a ressie?

I did. Happened when I altered my October reservation in December to change the nights around. They didn't actually cancel anything, just moved the nights around. I had the same reservation number as before.

Now that's a member enhancement I like.:rotfl:

So you were able to drop a night in the middle of the reservation without any problem? That would be great. -- Suzanne

I had a VWL vacation reservation for 12/2 - 12/7 and MS changed it for me to 12/10 - 12/17. I kept the same reservation number.

No. I switched my check-in and check-out dates to shift my stay forward a few days.

I has MS move me from a 1 BR to a 2 BR (at the same resort) and fully expected to get a new reservation number but they told me it was the same as before. Since I'm fairly new to DVC I don't know if that would have resulted in a new reservation in the past (but I would have guessed it would).

I booked a vacation in early Dec, 2008 at my home resort at the 11 month window. At the 7 month window, I found out that the Sat night in the middle of my stay was still available. I wanted to cancel that one night and rebook it with points from another resort. I was told that I would have to cancel all of the nights either before or after that night and rebook them as well. Not surprisingly, the weeknights were not available. So to rebook the middle Sat night with 7 month points, I would lose my existing reservation and have to WL for the weekdays either before or after that night.

I have not seen anything in this thread that suggests that this policy has changed. -- Suzanne

I think the real problem comes in when someone books at their home resort to secure something at the 11 month window, and then wants to make a new booking at a non home resort at the 7 month window. If you don't have the points they have to cancel the first reservation to make the new one. Sometimes points vanish in the couple minutes between transactions.

Anyone seen any (holding) change in this scenario?
