We are flying for the first time in May. I would prefer to drive because my family loves a good road trip but we have the Grandparents with us this time. We are going to use Southwest whenever they finally release our dates but I am such a air newbie, I'm nervous about it all. :upsidedow

What should I know about Southwest? Should I book flight down and flight back separately in case of a Ding? If I book a roundtrip will I still be able to get a credit if the price drops? How fast do flights sell out, specifically the first flight out in the morning? (we are flying out of Manchester, NH) Do they release great prices when the schedule opens up or do they wait for the really low fares?:confused3

Is there anything else I should know about SW that I haven't listed?

Thanks for your help!:flower3:

What are the dates you are flying? If they are during a school break, you need to book ASAP especially if you want the first flight out

Also SW will not give your money back, they will give you a credit toward a future flight that has to be used in one year

Ragnrok23-Thanks for the reply! The flights in May do not coincide with a school vacation week but it is a Friday on the way down and a Sunday on the way back.

You will be able to get a credit if the price drops. It has happened to us before.

ragnrok23 , we are neighbors, I live in Dartmouth.

We are going in May also. We are leaving May 2nd flying Sw and coming back Jet BLue. Just because the seats aren't assigned, i know that I could check in at home befrore we leave and have a good chance at getting A Boarding, but i don't have acces to a computer down there so it is possible we would get split up.

for arielsleepingbeauty......don't worry about online checkin coming back in the future.......simply take your flight info with you to whatever park you'll be in the day before your flight back and go to Guest Relations at the 24 hour mark. They will gladly let you check in and print your boarding passes. I just did it two weeks ago at Epcot and Guest Relations has a small room set up for guests to go online and print your own.

Does anyone know when Southwest will open their flights beyond May 10th? We're looking at traveling in May and/or September. Getting anxious to book.
Thanks.

DonnaL-We will be on our last day of cruise at the 24 hr mark. I will need to find out how to print those boarding passes then. Hopefully, there will be a way to do that on the ship.

NancyK-From everything I've read on these boards and on the SW Blogsite, it looks like the dates will be released next Thursday...

I was not aware of that, thank you for that info!! That does help me for next year.

The easiest thing to do is have a friend back home check in for you. They will need your name and confirmation number. Their checking you in locks up your A/B/C status. Then you pring the actual boarding pass at the SW kiosk when you get to the airport.

If you are planning on watching for Dings you really need to puchase each direction separately and EACH member of your party separately. More work but rarely can I use a Ding for all of us at the same time.:goodvibes

Most ships these days have computer centers w/ internet access.

We've always just used that to check ourselves in and print our boarding passes right on the ship!
