Everything but Disney Day 3 - Showcase of Citrus and Celebration
Sunday 16th October 2011
We were up at 5.30am
I did some washing (loved the washer/dryer in the room) and DD had some breakfast.
We decided to go to Ihop for breakfast on the 192 opposite celebration. Very nice food and service. Lots of local sheriffs and retired people were there which we took as a good sign.
DD has learnt to read properly since our last trip which made us laugh a few times. When we pulled up at ihop she read the poster in the window saying all you can eat pancakes and said to Daddy – you should have those – he did!
I had a coupon for signing up to the ihop email club for a free breakfast so breakfast cost us $25 inc a generous tip.
We then carried on along the 192 then up the 27 to Showcase of Citrus at Clermont.
DD wanted to go orange picking and i’d come across showcase of citrus. I’d bought a groupon deal for $27 for the 3 of us to have a 1 hour monster truck swamp tour and a $5 bag of citrus fruit. You can just pick fruit but I thought we’d do this as we were going anyway. I’d emailed them to book the tour for 10am.
We turned up about 9am and there was no one there. We had a wander and took some pictures and picked some fruit. They did have signs up for an honesty box set up if no one was there but it was odd just us.
Just before 10am someone turned up but said first monster truck tour was 12 noon as they had no driver. Suspect it was as we were the only ones! – they hadn’t emailed to cancel and didn’t really apologise.
We had a drive up to Clermont and took a photo of the historic citus tower. When it was built it was surrounded by groves now it is shops and houses. We had a look in Walmart and Ross and headed back for 12.
Truck set off at 12.30 as they waited for another group to arrive. Think there were 4 parties on the truck so pretty full.
Driver was good and it was good fun. We saw a gator and at one point you stop and throw oranges to the cows! They loved them. DD enjoyed it. We came away with a bag with a few grapefruit, oranges, key limes and tangerines aswell. We also got a free slushee made with fresh orange.
I’d recommend it as something different, very laid back but probably best to call and confirm times etc.
