I have not read The Devil Wears Prada, and I am only about 3/4 through this book. But I am only finishing it because I already have this much time invested in it.

But I am not at all impressed. I don't really care for Bette. Her co-workers are not anyone that I would like my DDs to be friends with. The story is very ho-hum and seems to be all over the place.

Did anyone read and really enjoy this book? Or am I just too old for this story?

I read it over last summer and I wasn't impressed with it either. If my poor librarians hadn't had to call 84,000 libraries (ok..maybe more like 6 or 7 but still..)to find a copy to borrow through ILL, I wouldn't have finished it either. I felt obligated since they worked so hard to get it for me. :)

Well, I'm glad that I didn't put that much effort into obtaining this book. It was just a quick decision in an airport. I can get 1/2 my money back if I take it back after reading it if its within 6 months of purchase (with receipt - stapled to a bookmark.) I think that I may just try to do that!!! ::yes:: Hate to think that I spent 8 bucks on this thing...

Well, I read it recently, but I'm confused. Who is Bette? I can't recall a character by that name. Andy Sachs is the main character, right? I enjoyed the book, but not as much as I thought I would. Have you seen the movie? It is so much different...I liked the book better, so you might not like the movie at all.

I think that we are talking about two different books. I am talking about the one by Lauren Weisberger - the author of The Devil Wears Prada. This one the main character is Bette, her friend Penelope, her "boyfriend" Philip, her boyfriend Sammy... :teeth:

As I am reading it, now they are in Istanbul...

There are ALOT of spoilers in the last quarter of the book. It explains many of the coworkers, "friends", "boyfriends", etc. So most of the confusion gets cleared up.

Having said that, yeah, the book itself pretty much sucked. :rotfl:

I liked The Devil Wears Prada, but I think I liked it because I'm interested in the fashion industry. Weisberger is not a great writer, and Everone Worth Knowing got terrible reviews, so I passed on reading it when it came out.

I didn't love it, but I definitely didn't hate it. It really seemed that at the end everything fell too perfectly into place, like she was looking for a way out of coming up with a great ending. I guess it was really just a middle of the road book for me.

I am no literary scholar and even *I* think that that is pretty evident. ::yes::

I wish that I had known that before I bought the book. I only bought it based upon the bestselling status of The Devil...

Truthfully, I did not think there were any real "questions" regarding the characters and the Boyfriend/Boyfriend thing. I personally just find them to be very shallow, amoral characters that mean nothing to me. (And I am not THAT much of a prude - as least in my READING. ;) )

I agree. :thumbsup2 It was a'ight. :confused3

After having read The Devil Wears Prada, I'm not interested in reading any other books by Lauren Weisberger. It seems to me that her goosipy books appeal to a small segment of the New York glitterati - kind of a minimally disguised who's who of that world.
