Oprah Winfrey says everyone has a story, and I believe that it is true. Who are some interesting (non-famous) people you have met this past year? I don't mean someone you have stayed in touch with, just a one time encounter.

Two people I found very interesting were a nun doing missionary work in Honduras, the other was an old woman from Harlem who told me all about her life. She was heading to Alabama for her 40 year high school reunion.

My contact was with a lady who has worked at her job in our hospital chain for 50 years---same job, same hospital. Oh, the changes she has seen!

I was sitting in South Station last spring waiting for my train. A man came tapping up with a red tipped white cane and asked if he could sit. I learned he used to be a pilot for an airline and how he became blind from the result of a plane in front of him on the runway. He told me of his wife, whom he loved dearly ,had just passed of cancer. I also learned about his children and their professions. He was quite a man. I enjoyed our chat and I made sure I told him that when I had to leave. It was a very interesting 40 minutes.

I was working at a medical walk-in and had a pleasant gentleman come in. I don't remember his complaint and we only spoke about the immediate problem he had. When I raised his shirt to take a blood pressure I saw his tattooed numbers on him arm that he had been a concentration camp survivor. We didn't talk about it but I was really affected by this thinking how old he could have been at the time and what he went thru.

While flying back from Florida I was seated next to a woman from Germany whose Daughter was attending LSU in Baton Rouge. She had a large collection of German Woman's magazines-she started translating recipes in them(we're both avid cooks) and she and I talked the whole flight-about cooking, our kids and vacations we go on. The recipes and ingredients were somewhat different than things we eat here.....she even wrote down her own recipe for a cake that contained a LOT of wine for me. A lovely person.
