not re-fuel?

We did in January and the gas gauge still read full.

No charge, but we probably cut it close.

we have done this before, and plan on doing it again in January. Then because we have a noon flight, we opted to take the cruise line transportation back to the airport so we would not have to hassle with getting a rental car the day that we fly home. Seems ridiculous to me to pay to park a rental car, and pay the fees for a rental car. We learned this on our first cruise...

Would like more details on this. Does Pt. Canaveral have a rental drop off there and is it all car rental services? We've only done one other DC and did the bus so the other options are unfamiliar to me. This would solve my beverage handling situation.

Pt. Canaveral per se does not have a car rentals available. Avis has a location at the Radisson hotel, which is quite close, and they provide shuttle service to/from the port. So you could rent a car at MCO & drop it there or vice versa.

RE: not re-fueling

I'd be careful with that. Sometimes they will charge you if they go to re-fuel the car and they can squeeze in a gallon of gas. I got charged about $15 once and the gauge read (barely) full.

On our recent 8/3/02 Western trip, we rented an Avis car at the Radisson for our return to the airport (we had an 8 pm flight) so we went to Clearwater for the day to visit a relative).

Anyway, on the way back to the airport I kept reminding my hubby that we really should get off around WDW and fuel up because there are not many place to get gas if you go to airport along 417 (the Greenway). Needless to say he wanted to wait until we got closer to the airport, but there were no gas stations!!!!

When we returned the car the guy said, gee, are you sure you want to return it half full? We did not have time at this point to leave and follow his directions to the gas station.....we were hit with an approx. $50 fuel surcharge. So, our $55 minivan rental one way turned into over $100 because of the fuel.

FILL UP BEFORE YOU GET TO THE AIRPORT!!!!

We were on the 9/28 Magic and had a 5:20pm return flight to Detroit, so we rented a car from Avis and spent the day at the Kennedy Space Flight Center. As we were flying Northwest we were able to check in our luggage at the cruise terminal, so we only had to haul the carry-ons with us to pick up the rental car.

As far as refuelling, there is a gas station at the exit where you get to Alamo at MCO (it's one exit east of the airport off the Beeline), so we stopped there to refuel before we dropped off the car at the terminal. I think we put in less than 2 gallons (it was $2.50) but likely saved us a ton in refuelling surcharges.
