I missed this book in my childhood and my children's childhood. I was introduced to it a few weeks ago and just found it on-line. It is a sweet story.

Yes, this is one of my favorites. Unlike "Love You Forever" which I find icky and gross, The Velveteen Rabbit has been a real classic since it was published.

OMG, that book makes me cry like crazy!!! I can't even bring myself to read it now..

Oh, God, when they have to burn everything I used to just lose it!

Oh you don't like that Robert Munsch story? I found it brought tears to my eyes when the son is carrying the mother at the end.

someone told me that "Love You Forever" is actually about a child who died. Now I can't go anywhere near that book w/o losing it. I am tearing up now.:guilty:

No, I hate it!!! I almost came to blows (figuratively speaking) once on a DIS thread about it. I'm not the only person who dislikes it but there are A LOT more who LOOOOVE it!

We watched the movie of it when I was in grade school. I've never seen the *exact* same version. At least I don't think so. I've looked occassionally but never one that jumped out at me. It was not a cartoon, I can still picture parts of it. I think it may have been narrated. It's possible it was specifically made for school too. I must have been in 2nd or 3rd grade.

I don't know if I ever read the actual book but it is one of my favorite stories.

The Velveteen Rabbit was one of the first books that I bought in elementary school from one of the Scholastic flyers. I loved that book and took such great care of it, that it's in my classroom library now. I read it to my students every year.

Me too! My son asked me to read it once and I could barely get through it. :sad1:

Also love, but can't get through, Love You Forever.
