in 2001. Our car looked good, but we found out differently. It was in June, and since it rains regularly in Orlando during the summer, we were on our way back to the hotel and took the turn off for our hotel. When we went into the curve (while slowing down)the car did not respond to braking, and skidded right off the highway and onto the grass by the offramp. We regained control of the car after skidding about 100 feet on the wet grass, and pulled back onto the road. Upon checking the car afterwards, we THEN noticed that the tires were nearly BALD, and we would have lost traction or control at some point anyways with the wet roads. Needless to say we mentioned it upon returning the car, and have never rented from them again. The person working there had also inspected the car before renting it to us, and we had as well, and had not mentioned the tires.
Luckily we were fine, and there was nothing in our way while we skidded, but it was definitely a scary experience. We can laugh about it now, but needless to say, we have not rented a car in Orlando again, and would rather stay on site and take transportation just to be safe. I know that would probably not happen again, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Also the people at the counter were not the most polite, and after our complaints they were even less helpful.
