I use Clinique eyeliner and I've never had a problem with the black or brown colors. I tried the Grape eyeliner yesterday and my eyes have been a mess ever since. After about an hour of having it on, my eyes started to itch then get watery the goopy. When I woke up I had to use warm water on them to get them to open all the way from the goop. (sorry, I know that's gross  )

Now they are red, super red, you can barely see the white. I can see fine, no vision problems. I took the eyeliner back and the clerk told me it's probably from a small amount of red dye they use in the grape color and she said a lot of women have had trouble with grape and she suggested several times that I should go to the doctor b/c my eyes looked horrible.

Have you ever had a reaction like this and what did you do? Ride it out, try visine or go to a doctor. The red is letting up just a bit but they are still very red & bloodshot looking.

I can't wear any cosmetics with red dye in them or I get a terrible allergic reaction. I've never gone to the doctor though - it usually clears up in a day or 2.

YES! I wore Maybelline eyeliner and the mascara in the pink/green tube forever, then almost overnight developed an allergy to them both!

I remember the rims of my eyes itching sooooo bad!

My eyes are so uncomfortable and look gross. I can't wait for them to feel better!

 Hopefully you didn't have plans tonight! It almost sounds like you have pink eye!

I can't wear make-up by Mary Kay. If any of it gets near my eyes, it makes them really red and swollen.

No, no plans. I'm boring. ;) I've never had pink eye, what exactly is it?

Pink Eye is Conjunctivitis. It makes your eyes very itchy and weepy. I always wake up with my eyes "glued" together in the morning. I can't get them open until I get a warm, wet wash rag on my eyes!

I do believe that a cosmetic reaction can cause it, but it's not the contagious kind. Regular Pink Eye is very contagious.

Here's a gross link for you: http://www.stlukeseye.com/Conditions/Conjunctivitis.asp

Feel better soon!

Nope, never had a reaction like that but I did , in error, take my eye makeup off using nail varnish remover pads. Now THAT was sore!

Yup, that's gross and pretty much how my eyes look.

Thanks for the info! :)

Omigod! OUCH!

I can't wear any eye make by Maybelline for the same reason. Warm moist cloths about once an hour for 10 minutes provides some relief for me. If it is still bad tomorrow call your eye dr and talk to him/her for suggestions.

I can't wear eyeshadows of any kind because I have allergic reactions. :sad2:

I'll try the warm cloths. Thanks!

:scared1: :scared1:

I found I was highly allergic to certain mascaras and eyeliners...even Clinique. I have had more reactions than you could ever imagine!

Another thing happens with makeup sometimes...if you pump air into the tube, it can contaminate the fluid in there. If you've used that particular eyeliner for a while without problems, it's more likely that the tube has become contaminated. If it's a new one, you're probably allergic to it.

In the future, be sure your eyes have been cleaned prior to applying eye makeup. Even if a little bit of sleepy gets into a tube, it can contaminate it. Throw away all makeup that is over 12 months old.

That's the only way I've been able to keep my eyes reaction free for a couple of years.

I can't wear Mary Kay eye makeup. I have so many allergies, I decided years ago to go bare-faced. So, now I don't wear any makeup. For me, it just wasn't worth it.

Benadryl and cool cloths will help your eyes feel better.

i get wicked itchy eyes when i wear eyeshadow. i basically end up rubbing it all off about 10 min after i put it on.

I can't wear mascara by Revlon. It makes my eyes water non-stop. Eye shadows are fine, but mascara by Revlon for me is a no-no.
