Ever go to the water parks in January?

On every trip, we start it out at Blizzard Beach for our first day. I have a very strong feeling this won't happen this trip. I just started thinking about our plan for this trip. I know BB will be rehabbed before Jan. this year. What do you think, crazy to even think about it?? I know the weather is completely iffy this time of year. Have you ever been in January?

Yes, we've been to the water parks in January and it was great. The weather was high 80's and the crowds low. I think as long as the temperature is high enough for you, you'll have a blast. This past January, our temps at home were in the teens for weeks on end. When we arrived in Orlando, the temps were in the low 60's midday but it felt like heat wave and we were in the pool at our hotel all day. The employees walking around in heavy jackets, however, thought we were nuts since they were cold.

Thanks Jeannine! Your observation about the temperature differential is very true... by Dec 18th, we should be 'enjoying' typical north uk winter weather, not quite as cold as you, but no more than 30 - 40 f.... I'm hoping that 60 -70 will feel tropical!! Mike

We visited in January, 2003 and were there for two weeks. There was a bit of a cold spell while we were there (which was nothing compared the the record cold we'd left in Chicago and was unusual for Florida even in January) and there was only one day that was about 80 degrees. We went to TL that day. It was a little chilly, but we got used to the water and really enjoyed park because it was practically empty. Have fun!

Yes, it can be cold in January. Last year was the 3rd coldest winter in Florida history. I would plan on going to the WP but have a back up plan just in case it's to cold.

I been to Typhoon Lagoon twice in early January - in 2002 and 2003. Those two times were the BEST time I ever had at water parks! The wave pool has plenty of space so you can body surf without hitting another soul. I went on every tube and body slide so many times that my feet were hurting from climbing all the stairs (at least over 30 times!). I floated in the lazy river without being elbow to elbow with other people. The air temperatures for 2002 was about 77 degrees, and about 73 degrees for 2003. Most people swimming there were of northerners (like me) or from the UK.

Every CM is wearing coats and pants, saying how cold it is! I even saw a young college-age CM sleeping at a vendor stand, since he had nothing to do. On each trip, I was lucky that I had a warm day to do the water parks, as the air temperature for the rest of my trip were in the low 60's or 50's. I never felt too cold there, especially with the sun shining.

Be aware that Disney does close the water parks if they decide the weather forcast says it will be too cold. When I was there in 2002, the CM's already knew the park would be closed the next day, as the temperature was forcast to be 55 degrees.

So I say if you get a sunny day with air temperatures near or above 75ish degrees, then go for it!

iwas afraid the air would be cold even if the water is heated...you were fine at 73, know how cold it has to be before they close it?

We went in January a few years ago. We were living in Maine, so low 80's seemed hot to us. The water was heated and swimming was fine but it was slightly chilly when laying in the sun while wet. This was only day during our trip that was warm enough to swim, so if you get a warm day, I'd grab it and go to the park.

We went to TL 3 times this past Jan.! We lucked out and had some nice weather. I have to agree that it was great visiting the water parks in Jan because of low crowds. The weather can be iffy though. We will be back this Dec/Jan and hope to get a few warm days for BB. Unfortunatly TL will be closed for rehab Jan 2004.

TL will be closed!! I thought TL did rehab in Nov/Dec and BB closed in Jan! We really wanted to try TL. We have yet to do a water park, as the kids always have fun at our resort pool.

Truth be told, I wanted to go. I wanted to try out the lazy river ride. Does BB have a similar ride?

Typically that has been the rehab schedule in past years, but this year they reversed them for some reason. Anyone know why? BB does have a lazy river as well and the theming is wonderful. Give it a try if possible, you'll have a great time.

Harambe - If you've got kids I think BB is even better than TL! The lazy river ride is about the same, but the family raft ride at BB is way better - it's fantastic! There's also a whole section called the Ski Patrol Training Camp at BB aimed at 5 - 12 year olds that my two love (that type of area doesn't exist at Typhoon Lagoon). In fact, after going to BB when they were 4 & 7, TL was fun the next year, but a bit of a let down for them. The only thing they liked better at TL was the snorkelling tank. TL was okay in January - fine in the water, but coolish when strolling around wet.
