Hi everyone. We've booked a category 11 room, but now the more I think about not having a window I'm starting to get a little creeped out! I have never had claustrophobia before but I feel like I'm getting it just thinking about the room! Does it feel like a coffin? Anyone else driven crazy in a windowless room? Or am I over-reacting? Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

The rooms are still pretty good sized.

We've always cruised DCL with a verandah in the past. But the only thing we could afford late last year was a discounted rate on a Cat 11. It wasn't the size of the room that was bad, but we quickly noticed the lack of storage space (compared to a deluxe). But we still did ok, must make sure you take along on of the over the door shoe holders for organizing nicknacks in a Cat 11.

I hear ya "Luke".

i was totally freaked about the prospect of no window or air.

since we have 5, it was cheaper to book a cat6 and 11 than one cat 4!

so, i'll see how i like it.

if i dont mind it at all, and I turn out to be one of those people that spends 1 hour on the verandah during 7 days, im goin indoors and cheaper for future cruises::yes::

p.s. whats the number of the pressure maintenance hatch in the garbage masher in episode 4, a new hope ( the first "Star Wars" released.).. no peaking ! :D

Hi , i kind of felt the same way , we are due to go on our first cruise in october and all that was left was 11's so i did a search on our room number 7623 and got some reports from others who'd stayed in that category, i think we'll be fine and if not well i'll just spend the night there and leave the door open :sunny:
loads of people have said they spend about 10 mins a day on the verandah so i'll go to not so secret deck 7 for my fresh air.

have a fantastic holiday

Cat 11 was fine for three of us (myself, DH and DD-7) space wise, and we didn't miss having a window.

However, my DH had problems sleeping because of the bed location! In Cat 11 and 12, the bed rocks head-to-toe with the waves; all others seem to be situated to rock side-to-side.

This never kept me awake, but he needed extra pillows to prop himself up. He felt full from eating and his head "dipping" down caused him to feel somewhat nauseous.

We're booking Cat 10 next time to avoid this.

There is a mirror above the headboard of the bed, for some reason this makes the room feel more open to me....kinda like a fake window.

Do remember a nightlight & lighted alarm clock. It can get pretty dark in there!

Had a category 5 the first cruise and used the verandah for a total of 10 minutes. Decided the second time around not to spend the extra money for the verandah. But I was stressing over the size of a Cat 11 and with no window before we went. I am claustrophobic! It did not bother me at all. I was really surprised. Besides I wasn't in my room long enough for it to matter. Good luck and think positive!

My DH and his father are both very claustrophobic. All three of us cruised in a Cat. 11 in Dec., 2002, and there were no problems at all. The only time we were in the room was to sleep, shower and dress. The rest of the time we were either relaxing on deck somewhere or busy doing something else!

We're planning our fourth cruise in a Cat. 11 for this fall. We don't feel any need for a window or a verandah!

WE HAVE HAD CAT 11 EACH TIME AND NEVER FELT A SENSE OF BEING CLOSED IN OR ANYTHING AND WE HAD 4 OF US. 2 ADULTS AND 2 TEENS. WE DIDN'T SPEND ALL THAT MUCH TIME IN OUR ROOM ANYWAY; JUST SLEEP, SHOWER AND CHANGE CLOTHES. I JUST DON'T HAVE ANY REASON TO SPEND MORE MONEY FOR SOMETHING I'M NOT GOING TO SPEND TOO MUCH TIME IN. I THINK YOU'LL DO FINE. ENJOY!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :sunny: :wave2:

Everyone's experience in an inside stateroom will differ. There are five of us and we do spend time in our room. We've only had an inside stateroom once but will never book one again. Dh felt very closed in. I prefer a balcony but will take a stateroom with a window as I feel it is better than no window. JMHO.

I felt the Cat 11 was too confining for 4 of us.....hubby, myself an 18 year old 6 foot son and my 15 year old DD.

If it was just hubby and me and I would have been fine...but with four of us is was just too much togetherness!!!

I also found the Cat 11's seriously lacking in storage space compared to the other categories we have been in.

I really like natural light and that threw me off as well.....I never knew what time of day it was.

We had cruised 3 X before with a veranda, then in a Cat 11 last October. Other than lesser storage space, I didn't have any problems in the room. I have a tendency to feel claustrophobic (sp), but had no problem.

We had a cat 11 for our 1st cruise and we loved it! We spent very little time in the room and the lack of a window was actually great for afternoon naps! We live in a big house and like our space, but for something we used so little we just couldn't see paying the extra for.

If storage is an issue, put your lifejackets and suitcases under the bed and you have that much more space in the closet! And over the door holders, etc always help too.

We booked another cat 11 for our 7 day in June and are really looking forward to it. There is a public verandah on deck 7 aft that was almost always empty so if you have the need it is available.

Good luck!

Kat

There is a public verandah on deck 7 aft that was almost always empty so if you have the need it is available.

Just not the same as a private verandah.

We usually pay the extra for the private verandah and yes, we don't use it very often. But what is so GREAT about it is that any time you're in your cabin, you can step outside at any moment and see an unobstructed view of the ocean, smell the sea air. Try going out on deck 7 aft after you've changed into you night-gown. We also enjoy having a room with lots of light in it.

BUT... we've also enjoyed the Cat 11 rooms. Our last cruise was a "test" cruise with a one year old. The typical day called for everyone waking late. After everyone managed to eat breakfast, it was time for DS morning nap. After nap, it was time for lunch. By the time we managed to finish lunch, it was time for afternoon nap. So we were spending LOTS of time in our cabin (as our "day" didn't start until 3-4 o'clock in the afternoon).

Of course that whole story leads to another reason private verandah's are great. If you are having to stay in the cabin lots because of a little one / sick one, you can spend your time in the cabin watching TV or go out on your private verandah to sit and enjoy the sea air and perhaps read a book.

First time on the Magic, we had a 6 with a verandah. It was 106 degrees the day we left, and we used the verandah maybe 5 minutes total (too hot!). Since then we've booked 11s. We've been upgraded 3 times. There are only 2 of us, but an 11 is fine.

As to storage space....there are lots of tricks. Put the life jackets under the bed so that you can use the top shelf in the closet. Many suitcases will also slide under the bed. An over the door shoe hanger is a big help.

we've sailed 5 times in a cat. 11 and there's three of us. never felt cramped . like everyone says mostly you just sleep, shower and change in the room anyway.

I have to agree. We've never cruise Disney but did cruise Carnival last year. We booked a room with a window. I'm very clausterphobic (sp?) and have a bad time with tight spaces. I did not have any problem at all. We should have saved the money and booked an interior. When we did open the curtains (twice) all we saw was water. We were in the room to sleep, shower and change. We've book 2 connecting cat 10s for our upcoming Disney cruise. We don't want to be in the room, we want to be up on deck or at a show! We can stay in our bedroom at home!

I would, however get a veranda if I had little ones that took naps. That way you're not cooped up inside while they're sleeping.

Last August the four of us (me, DBF, DD (12) and DD (5) stayed in a Category 11. Only problem was getting dressed. Poor boyfriend had to leave as the girls took over. :earsgirl:

I also love natural light and wondered if it would be a problem. Not at all, The lights were bright enough and by the time it started to bother me, I was leaving and headed to an outside area. Hope this helps.
