BDL is my 'home' airport, but It's been years since I flew out of there near a major holiday.
Generally, it's busy there from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. However, busy at BDL is no where near as bad as at a large airport. If it was me, I would get there 2 hours early (maybe 1.5 hours with no checked bags).
I have never flown out of BDL but use PVD as my "home" airport, or did before moving to NH. I would imagine the day before Thanksgiving, especially with the number of NE colleges up here, I would count on between 2-3 hours depending on the time of your flight just to be safe. Nothing worse than standing in a panic in the security line ... I'd rather be chasing my toddler at the gate for an extra hour!
I will remember that when I tell you we need to get there 2 hours early and you disagree All kidding aside, Get there at least three hours early. I would rather get there early and have to sit in a seat and wait calmly. Than have to rush and worry about getting through the security checkpoint.
Is your flight early in the Am? Or late in the day? This makes a big difference. We always fly out very early 5-6 am. This usually makes it less crowded when you go through at 4am.
We moved here from Boston & are used to the craziness of Logan airport
Our flight is at 2:55pm on Wednesday. We are checking two bags and it's just my DF & me (no kids).
I'm getting a little nervous because I'm scheduled to work until 11:00am that day. We live about 40 minutes from the airport. We are planning to just leave immediately after I get home from work.
If we leave our house at 11:30, we should get to the airport by 12:30 at the latest. Do you think that is cutting it too close??
It depends upon when your flight is scheduled. We always fly out of BDL and have flown out the day before T-day a couple of times. Two hours should be fine, unless you are flying out midmorning, than I would bump it up a bit. You can always get through security and have breakfast at McD's.
