So I am just wondering if there are any others out there in my boat. We have been trying to plan a Disney World Vacation for about 2 years now. It has fallen through in the past because of money :sad2: We WILL go in 2013. The things that will be different this time are 1. I have gotten a $1.00 an hour raise at work 2. I have cut $200 off of the food bill every month 3. We have completely stopped eating out 4. Ex is finally paying child support and 5. Our car will be paid off.

Just in the past it has fallen though before because of money and it CAN'T happen this time. It is super important that we go for our family.

Anyone used to be in the same boat I was and have success stories of making it to the most wonderful place on Earth? I could really use the encouragement.

Thanks :)

We have been planning and scheming on how to go to Disney this year. Last year we were able to pull it off because my parents went with us and offered to pay airfare and hotel. All we had to pay was food and tickets. We ended up just booking a big package and paid my parents.
But this year it just didn't seem that anything could come together. Expenses kept coming up and dates kept following through. I finally just wrote it off and decided that we are not going until next year. DH agreed and that was that.
Then the next day my boss called me into his office and gave me a promotion. Which wasn't something that I ever thought would happen because I am my company's sole engineer for all three of American offices. But, our office manager is leaving and many of his job duties will now be mine. This comes with a significant raise, profit sharing and a yearly bonus. So, our trip is back on for Feb. Plus our son starts kindegarten in the fall and we are switching daycare for my daughter. There's close to $500 a month in savings.

Don't lose hope, things will come together!!

I feel the same way. Two years in a row we had plans (and deposits), which were cancelled...

I'm determined for 2013 and making it 3 weeks now so we can also go to other places. Unless we end up with a cruise instead. Just as long as we GO somewhere.

We had plans to take the kids to Disney and I hurt by back, my plans went up in smoke and my trip was replaced with not one but two back surgeries, but I did not lose hope and promised the kids we would get there. Several years later, I again saved the money and had the trip paid for everything was a go and the company my husband worked for filed bankruptcy, everything was already paid for, money set aside for meals, travel, traveler checks bought, new clothes bought, everthing was done except the packing. I was totally beside myself. Husband decided I should go and take the kids, he could not go as he had started a new job, so I went and took my mother along, that was back in 2000, we went again in 2007 as a family and celebrated our 35th, then again in 2009 as a girls only trip, then in 2011 as a mother daughter trip. So, do not lose heart, not only will it happen, but many more trips after if that is what you want to happen.

Just keep saving, and planning.

Been there. AM there. However, don't let it get you down (I know it's easy). If it's money that's keeping you from Disney the most important thing is not being stressed about money in your day to day. You'll have a much better time when you do go if you're not worried about finances.
We were thinking about going next year, and even though I can throw it on a credit card and pay it off before we go it would mean I'm not putting money where it should go (emergency fund is FAR from what it should be, college fund for our kid is sadly lacking, repairs to our home...).
Then again there is a balance to be struck. Don't want to save it all then get hit by a car never having enjoyed what we worked for.
Everyone knows their own situation best but just don't be too bummed out if you can't financially swing it - you're doing what you can when you can.
For me, to scratch the Disney itch I had enough air miles to buy a disney ticket for a child. Our kid is too young to need one, but when probably can go she will be ticket needing age, so I got her a ticket now. Piece by piece. Little by little. I can see headway being made.

Whenever you go, it will be a magical experience for your family and end up being the perfect time for you all. Sounds like you are making a ton of headway in the finance department so just keep plugging away. I've had to plan WAY in advance for ours knowing the cost -- my FIL's bucket list cruise is a financial Goliath honestly (stupid family guilt) -- but know we'll get there eventually. Seeing the pics and videos of kids when they first see DLR or WDW, be they 3 or 13, I know it will be special at any age. :thumbsup2
