Ever changed an existing AAA Disney Vacation?

We booked our vacation June 21-27; staying at the Camelot Inn and 5 days in the park. My MIL is changing her mind and thinking she would like to stay at the Grand Ca. with one less night but still 5 days in the park. I see AAA charges a $25 reservation change fee. My question is, has anyone changed hotels and are there going to be more fees?

AAA books through the Walt Disney Travel Company, and typically, if you change your reservation and it is ultimately going to cost more money, they waive that change fee.

I would recommend that you tell your AAA agent to have Disney waive that fee.

A few years ago AAA charged us x2 for changes at $25.00 each time. The changes cost more, so hopefully these days they are more acceptable to not charge for the change. Good luck.

We used aaa for our 2005 trip and made changes that resulted in more $$$, the fee was waived. We didn't change hotels, we just upgrade the #of days on our parkhopper. I'm not sure if that made a difference. We also booked through WDW for our trip last year to WDW, and removed one night's hotel but upgraded to deluxe dining and that fee too was waived since our new package cost more $$$ than the original.

I think that's the general rule -- if you're going to spend more money with them, they'll find a way to waive the fee, if you're downgrading or dropping things, they'll invoke the fee. That's the gist of what I got from an AAA agent when I was pricing things last month.

That's why I'll probably book our rooms initially, then add tickets later to see what deals come along for fall. That will save me the change fees, I'm hoping. We are booking for a group with 5 rooms, so I don't want to wipe out my AAA savings with change fees!

It's so crazy. I was pricing the AAA package (on the website) that we want to upgrade to and found it to be $590.01 more...that's perfect. But when I called AAA (using the weekend travel agents) they told me all the Disney properties are sold out for those dates. I then called Disney Vacations and they told me they had availability for all Disney resorts and that AAA is given a certain amount of rooms to sell and when they do, they are all gone. OK, that's fine but when I went to the AAA website they are showing availability for GC and I could actually book it online. It never said no availability. WHAAAT???

I'm now going to call our original AAA travel agent (that we have a booked stay at the Camelot) and have her give me an explanation why. We are willing to pay the $25 change fee and the price increase for the GC but if they absolutely can't get us a room, then I'm forfeiting the $100 and booking directly through Disney. In fact, I have a 7 day hold on the exact package that we want through AAA.
