Ever book a last minute package?

My family has a number of times bought an on-property package with AAA. We love the benefits...namely enhanced fastpasses. Last winter I tried to buy a package a few months ahead, and only GCH had availability. Now I was hoping to buy for the summer and was told the AAA packages were sold out entirely for my one week window.
My agent at AAA did not want to entertain the idea of looking for last minute openings. I wonder if it ever happens. Would some AAA agents be more willing to search daily for my one week window?
Maybe there are fewer rooms made available to AAA than in past years. Maybe it is just an awfully popular time to go with the 50th!
Has anyone any hope something on property AAA can open up? What is the next best option? We thought stay off property where we can walk to park, get passes with regular fastpass and an early entry. Could be lots of fun doing DL in happily crowded summer time!

We booked a package three weeks out last year with AAA but only off property was available (even those hotels were limited) (we went in the middle of June last year) The walk was not bad. This year we booked four months in advance and i just checked to see what other hotels were available and Walt Disney Travel has the Best Western Stoval's available. I believe AAA has no availablility for our weekend. We are staying off property again this year at the Carousel Inn. You could always try Walt Disney Travel.
