I was just checking the DIB last night about 1:15am when I saw an big orange flash out the corner of my eye. At first I thought a car had pulled up with a bright indicator, but I soon realised that it was flames! I rushed to the front door and just across the road a car had burst into flames! People streamed from the neighbouring houses. The old red Nova was well alight and flames and black smoke were billowing in the wind. The guy across the road who is a carpenter for a local builder had to run out and move his van away - it was only feet away from the burning car.
The wind kept blowing the flames very close to Sooty and Pablo (DWs and my cars), but we couldn't move them because it was too dangerous. By this time the tyres had started to explode!
People in their dressing gowns were watching from a safe distance waiting for the firemen to arrive. They came after about 5 minutes (although it seemed like ages as I watched flames getting higher and closer to Pablo!.
It took 3 firemen with breathing gear to put the fire out. They spent a long time damping down. When it was out the women across the road whose house was nearest to the car brought a tray of tea out for the firemen!
About 10 minutes after the firemen left a police car arrived. They knocked on our door to see if we had seen anything.
I assume it was a stolen car that was dumped and torched! It's bad enough when dump cars in the middle of nowhere, but to do it in a residential street is just plain sick!
Youngest DD is having her friend sleep over tonight - and she's just said "Hope we get another one tonight so my friend can see it!" - kids
