Even with Blisters and Bad Hair, Disney is Still Magical! A Sept. 2014 TR -Updated 5/13

Wow. I have been a slacky slackerton. I blame holiday prep. I am hoping to get a new installment done tonight! I promise to be back soon. I also hope to get caught up on all the TRs I"m following, so if yours is one of those, I apologize for falling behind!

Girl, no need to apologize to us. We have all been there-done that. It's the holidays and everybody is busy. We'll be here when you get time to post.

Thanks, Lisa! I'm going to have another installment coming right now!

Well, now that I'm back from Slacktown, I can continue with our story. This was day 5 of our trip, day 3 at the parks. After the late night at MNSSHP, and because I was dealing with some nasty blisters, we took the opportunity to sleep in this morning. We slept until about 8:30 and then slowly started getting ready for the day.

I'm not going to lie. My feet were not pleased to be up and moving around. I re-applied the neo-sporin and bandaids and picked a different pair of shoes for this day. Most likely my Keens, as they were quite worn in and comfortable. We finally got moving and out the door about 10am. Here are the girls doing some posing.

They were ready to go. We headed over to Old Port Royal at CBR for some breakfast. Here is where I may lose a few more of my few readers. Why?

I didn't take pictures of our food.

We were starving and I may have left the camera in the car. You know Jason wasn't going to be helpful in that department with his phone, because he wants to eat his food, not photograph it.

Anyway, we had the basic breakfast fare. The kids each got a small Mickey waffle, eggs, and sausage. I got the large Mickey waffle with eggs and Jason got some bounty platter with eggs, meat of some sort, and potatoes. It was good. Not spectacular, but good and filling. After breakfast, I decided to take a quick stop in the Calypso Trading Post in OPR and see if they had any more heavy-duty bandaids for my ailing feet. Lo and behold, they had gauze and medical tape for not an insane amount of money. I bought those and got the kids a little Stitch magnet and a little Donald Duck back pack animal. They were taking a minute in the arcade, so I met them there and we were off.

Jason drove to our park for the day while I doctored my feet again. The gauze really provided a nice cushion and helped a lot! They still hurt, but it was much more bearable. Let's face it, I would have soldiered on any way. I'm not one to let some blisters stop me, but the extra cushion was nice. I packed the stuff away in the back pack in case I needed to re-apply later.

So, where were we off to this fine morning? Hollywood Studios! Our first FP+ was for Tower of Terror. This would be Maura's first time riding, and she was not excited. Before we went on though, we stopped for some PP along the way.

First they took these really cute Magic Shots of the girls!

She didn't quite get it here.

Then we all got in on some TOT shots.

Already the hair is falling and we've only been outside for 15 minutes!

We were supposed to look scared in this one. The kids didn't quite get it which makes it funnier.

We headed onto the ride. Poor Maura was really apprehensive, but we told her she had to try it, and if she didn't like it we'd never make her go on it again. Even Lucy, who had been on before was a little nervous. She likes the drop just fine but hates the ghosts. Again with the ghost fear. Who ARE these children? Certainly not ours!

The verdict? She didn't like it, but she was very brave and didn't cry. Here's our ride photo and video. The guy sitting in front of us in the gray shirt whose turned around? He was so sweet. He could tell Maura was nervous and told her he was too. He kept turning around to check and see how she was doing. Super nice guy!

After this, we realized we had missed Lucy and Jason's FP+ window for Rockin Rollercoaster. I'm not sure how we managed this next part, but it says in my notes, we got an updated FP+ for RNR. I don't have more details, but I guess we got it fixed. Anyway, our next FP+ was for Star Tours. Jason and I hadn't been on this since 2001 and I barely remembered it. I'd heard such good things about the refurb, we were all excited to ride. Our kids haven't seen all the Star Wars movies yet. I believe Lucy watched the original with our nephew, but Maura hasn't seen any. They are familiar with some of the characters though. They weren't concerned about this one being scary. We had FP+, but there was really no standby line either. We used or FP and had soon received our 3-D glasses.

A line photo:

On our ride we got Naboo and Gungin. Pretty cool! And, even cooler was that Lucy was the Rebel Spy!

We got off the ride and the kids loved it and immediately wanted to ride again. Since stand-by was non-existent, we got in line again. We pretty much walked right on. This time we got Hoth and Gungin. A different place for the second planet would have been cool, but it's just a fun ride!

We stopped in the dump shop to pick up some Star Wars characters for our neighbor who is Lucy's BFF. He just got into Star Wars recently (he and Lucy are in the same class and have been friends since birth), and he loved his souveneir. We had to bring him and his sister something good as they were watching Bowser, our beloved Pug, Jasper, our 19 year old cat, and Hamburger, our hamster.

After Star Tours, we split up for a while. Jason and Lucy were off to use their R-n-R FP+ and Maura and I were off to ride Toy Story Midway Mania. We parted ways and said we'd meet up shortly. This was our first time in the FP line for TSMM. We'd never gotten there early enough to get one before, but had always had good luck in the stand-by line. I have to say, it was nice to be in the FP line, but you don't get to see all the fun stuff you do in stand-by. I missed Mr. Potato Head for sure. But, we were all set to ride! Maura liked this ride in 2012, but she was only 3 and didn't get the whole shooting thing very well. She got it much better this time.

Ready to go:

Here was our car. Maura was excited to see we had Jessie.

Here were our scores. I guess the prizes weren't working. Mine isn't the greatest (right), but I'm fairly impressed by Maura's! I believe 2 years ago she barely broke 3000.

I don't know much about what happened while Jason and Lucy rode R-n-R. I know they rode and Lucy, our thrill ride junkie, loved it. Here is there picture.

I know Lucy looks scared, but I think the wind from the take off made her close her eyes. She loved it. It wouldn't be the last time she rode that day!

While we were waiting for Jason and Lucy, we went to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area. We had never been there before, but the kids had heard about it and wanted to play for a bit. Fine with me! It meant I got to rest my blisters! I texted Jason to let him know where we were and turned Maura loose! She loved the giant ant.

You can kind of see her about to come down the big net ladder.

Finally, Lucy and Jason arrived. Lucy wanted a picture on the giant ant too.

We let them play for a bit and then decided to head somewhere else. We were near Muppets 3-D and our kids are recently very into the Muppets, so we headed there. The show was only about 3 minutes from starting!

First a few outside pictures.

You can see how hot it was. Their cheeks are all pink from playing!

Fountain picture.

continued in next post.

We went into the waiting area for Muppets 3-D and I got some terrible pictures of that area.

So much to look at in there! Soon, we were in the theater waiting for the show to start. We were a little nervous about taking the girls in. They had seen It's Tough to Be a Bug in 2012 and hated every minute of it (which we of course found hilarious), so we weren't sure what they'd think of this. Well, they loved it. So, we were glad we went!

As soon as we came out the back door, we saw a FP+ kiosk and went to get another one. Unbelievably, they had one for TSMM for just a short time away, maybe an hour. We snatched that up right away, especially since Jason and Lucy hadn't gotten to ride yet. Once we did that, we turned around, and thus began the Characterpalooza at DHS of 2014. Right out the exit to Muppets 3-D, who was there? OMG, Phineas and Ferb! The girls started yelling a pointing. We said "Do you want to meet them?" The answer was a resounding yes. The line wasn't too long. It was hot, so we had to wait through 2 "snack breaks," but we didn't even wait 30 minutes. It didn't matter though. The kids were so excited, and we had no where else to be. This was a fun meet and greet. Phineas and Ferb had a lot of personality and spent a lot of time with each family.

They were oohing and aahing over the autograph books we made. Just a lot of fun! We were all glad we waited.

Next we headed over to Animation Courtyard. We knew that's where Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope would be and the girls were determined to meet them this trip.

On the way out though, we saw some PP and stopped for a minute. We picked New York as our backdrop.

Look at Maura's sweaty head and my mess of a hair do.

My favorite Magic Shot.

We got some frozen lemon ice bars on the way over. Once we were there, we parked the strollers, finished our snacks, and went in. Jason decided he needed an ice cream cone from the place that apparently serves you huge scoops. Not sure what it's called, but he remembered it from last time. So, since he knew where we were, he went in search of that saying he'd meet us shortly. Can you believe it? he actually took a picture of his ice cream! Not for me, mind you. Because it was so big he wanted to document it.

I think he had cookies and cream. I wouldn't know. He saved me none. :sad2:

We got into the Animation building and found where Ralph and Vanellope would be. The air conditioning felt so good. They were set to come out in about 10 minutes so we hopped in line. There was only 1 other family in front of us! Some pics while we waited in line.

Inside the game with "out of order" sign.

The cyber bugs.

If you've not seen this movie, I highly recommend it. We all love it, which made it extra disappointing that Jason didn't make it back in time from his ice cream break to meet them. He did love the pictures, though. After just a few minutes, they came out. Ralph's hands and arms are HUGE! Maura was wearing her Vanellope shirt, and they really liked that! Now here are 5000 pictures.

I love this one!

This one too.

Me and my bad hair had to get in one.

Another really fun meet and greet. And it wasn't over! But, I have to work tomorrow, so you'll have to wait for another day. I promise not to take such a long break this time!

Great update!!!!
you all look great! despite the sweat:rotfl2:

HS is my 2nd favorite park!!! I just love everything about it!!! I have never done the stand by for Toy Story!!! the line was always hours long.. always used a FP

TOT is the best ride!!! IF you can get her on again. Try to have her find the mickey the little ghost girl is holding! That way she might not be so scared???:confused3

popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

Glad to see I'm not the only busy bee this holiday season!

Love the updates!

So as a new mom I gotta say how much I love that sleeping in is until 8:30; I remember the days that seeping in meant 10 am, not anymore!!:rotfl2:

Your PP pics in HS are so cute! you guys got a lot of good ones this trip! I love the scared faces in front of ToT.

Y'all rode a lot this day!! And it's not even over yet! I've heard such horror stories about lines since the new FP system was put in place, but I haven't really seen that in the TR I've been reading.:woohoo:

Poor little Maura in ToT. My sis in her late 20's and hasn't ridden ToT since she was about Maura's age; she said never again! Hopefully Maura will grow out of it and be an adventure seeker like Lucy.

The pics of you guys with Ralph and Venelope are too cute! That movie is what made my SO like Disney, so it's very meaningful to us. Sorry dad missed them, but boy is that a big scoop of ice cream! If he remembers the location please share it; I'd love one of those next September!

Every time I see pictures of the pirate rooms, I find myself wishing that they had them when we first started staying at the CBR. They are just so darn cute!

Speaking of darn cute, I love all of your pictures in the latest update. The magic shots are cute, the pictures with New York as the backdrop is cute, the "scared" picture is cute. All of them are!

Tell Maura that she is a much braver person than I am. It took me over a dozen trips before I ever tried Tower of Terror.

Missed posting on Christmas so i am catching up with

Hah! Thanks. We just had to roll with it.

HS is my 2nd favorite park!!! I just love everything about it!!! I have never done the stand by for Toy Story!!! the line was always hours long.. always used a FP

2012 was the first year we were in HS since Toy Story opened. We got there too late for FP and had no problems! I was shocked.

TOT is the best ride!!! IF you can get her on again. Try to have her find the mickey the little ghost girl is holding! That way she might not be so scared???:confused3

Oh, we'll make her go on it again. We're not that nice of parents. :lmao: And, Lucy was scared her first time too and she gave it another shot this year, so I know there is hope.

To you and your beautiful family,

Thanks, Kathy! It was great. Hope yours was great too.

Glad to see I'm not the only busy bee this holiday season!

Oh lord, no. I was ready to tear my hair out, but it was worth it.

Love the updates!

Thanks!

So as a new mom I gotta say how much I love that sleeping in is until 8:30; I remember the days that seeping in meant 10 am, not anymore!!:rotfl2:

I remember when sleeping in was noon or later!:scared1: One of the main reasons we decided not to have more than 2 kids. We liked sleeping. I will say this too, now that the kids are older, we do sometimes get to sleep until 9 or 10 on the weekends! They just get up and do what they want.

Your PP pics in HS are so cute! you guys got a lot of good ones this trip! I love the scared faces in front of ToT.

Thanks! We did get a lot of good PP. We just stopped whenever we saw one. We wanted our money's worth and definitely got it!

Y'all rode a lot this day!! And it's not even over yet! I've heard such horror stories about lines since the new FP system was put in place, but I haven't really seen that in the TR I've been reading.:woohoo:

I had zero issues with FP+. Zero. I know some people hate it, but we really liked it, and I didn't think the standby lines we waited in were bad at all. 20 minutes was probably the max.

Poor little Maura in ToT. My sis in her late 20's and hasn't ridden ToT since she was about Maura's age; she said never again! Hopefully Maura will grow out of it and be an adventure seeker like Lucy.

She will. Lucy said she'd never ride again too and she did. Plus, we'll just make her. We're mean. ;)

The pics of you guys with Ralph and Venelope are too cute! That movie is what made my SO like Disney, so it's very meaningful to us. Sorry dad missed them, but boy is that a big scoop of ice cream! If he remembers the location please share it; I'd love one of those next September!

Meeting Ralph and Vanellope was a must do this trip. We would have waited forever to meet them. All 4 of us love that movie. It was so much better than I expected! And Jason can meet them next time. He said the ice cream was worth it. He's currently snoring like a buzz saw, but I will ask him tomorrow. I don't remember what the place is called, but do know it's near TOT. He may not remember the name either, but will definitely know the exact location.

Every time I see pictures of the pirate rooms, I find myself wishing that they had them when we first started staying at the CBR. They are just so darn cute!

They are so much fun! I'm glad they tried to upsell them to us the first time we stayed there or we may not have known about them!

Speaking of darn cute, I love all of your pictures in the latest update. The magic shots are cute, the pictures with New York as the backdrop is cute, the "scared" picture is cute. All of them are!

Thanks! We really enjoyed PP this trip! Lots of fun shots!

Tell Maura that she is a much braver person than I am. It took me over a dozen trips before I ever tried Tower of Terror.

LOL! I'll let her know! :)

Missed posting on Christmas so i am catching up with

top-beautiful-disney-happy-new-year-clipart-1.jpg

Thanks! You have a Happy New Year too!:cheer2:

Whoa! I've actually reached 11 pages on this TR! That may seem like small potatoes to some of you, but I never thought I'd reach the end of page 1! So, my few faithful readers, thanks for sticking with me. I am so enjoying writing this and re-living our trip. Jason thinks I'm crazy, but too bad for him! He's currently snoring away anyway. My current companion is this guy.

That's Bowser, our Pug. That's his sleepy face. I just took that. This is his happy face.

But enough about my dog. He's cute, and he rocks, but you're here to hear about my trip! Oh, and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Ours was awesome. One of the best things? Maura picked out this Jack Skellington blanket for Jason for his present. She knew he's love it, and he did. Even better? He got the SAME blanket for me! :rotfl2: Hey, at least now I don't have to steal his from him!

So, we were in the midst of Characterpalooza 2014 at Hollywood Studios. We had just finished meeting up with Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope and Jason had found us after his ice cream binge. Since we were in Animation Hall, we decided to keep our character mojo going and set off for the very short line for Sorcerer Mickey. Now he wasn't quite as impressive as talking Mickey a few days before, but we had never met Sorcerer Mickey, so it was pretty cool. Before we went in though, the kids wanted to check this thing out and see what characters they could make.

They had a lot of fun with this and much laughter was had when they put a skirt on Captain Hook!

On we went to Mickey!

Now some PP pics:

Maura once again had a hard time looking away from him. We did have to move on, though. He was a great meet and we didn't feel rushed at all. Next, we saw a little alcove/hallway thing that it sort of looked like people were waiting in. We asked one woman, and she said it was Minnie Mouse! No way! There was like 1 other family in line. You bet your rear end we hopped in that line! We had only seen Minnie at Chef Mickey's so far, and the girls LOVE her, so in we went! And this wasn't just any Minnie. This was Hollywood, all sparkly in her fancy dressing room Minnie! It may be hard to see in the pictures, but her dress had tiny glitter and sequins all over it!

She spent a lot of time "talking" to the girls, and her "friend" was very helpful in translating what she was saying. I'll be darned if I remember, but I know they had a really nice, long conversation. As you can see, we took a ton of pictures!

Here she is admiring the homemade autograph books the girls and I made. I'll post a picture of them in a second, but Minnie really loved them and kept pointing out different things on them, especially the sticker of Mickey that Lucy had on hers!

Here are some PP pics too:

She was so animated and friendly!

It was hard to say goodbye, but though there weren't many, there were a couple other families waiting and we didn't want to take up too much time. We blew Minnie some kisses, said good-bye and thank you, and were on our way.

I can't recommend the meet and greets in the Animation building enough! All 3 we had in there were wonderful! We will definitely go back next time. There were even more characters in there, but Lucy was wanting to get on some more rides. We'd had a nice long rest in the air conditioning, so we headed back out into the heat.

Before I go on though, here are pictures of the autograph books we made. I found the blank books at Barnes and Noble (I think, they were hard to find) for like $4 each, and then we went to Michael's in the scrapbooking area and looked at Disney stickers. The kids each got to pick 2 or 3 packs, and we got a pack of sparkly letters and they went to town! I think total for both books I paid about $20. The books at WDW are so expensive, and have so few pages. WE could easily use these books again on our next trip and each kid got about 30 autographs this trip.

Front:

Sorry for the bad quality. I just took them with my phone.

Back: I see Lucy even added a Mickey sticker she got on the trip.

And of course Small World had to make it on there. I tried to hide those stickers at the store, but no dice. They found them. :sad2: Why isn't there a vomiting smiley? I want to use one!

continued in next post

So we were off to ride some more. We had our recently acquired FP+ for TSMM so off we went! We were actually really close, so it only took a few minutes to get there.

On the way though, we saw a PP doing one of the Frozen shots, so of course we had to stop!

Here we are with Sven.

These were fun! Maura looks like a hunchback!

But now, off to TSMM!

Wheezy car this time!

I rode with Lucy this time. She did alright! (her score is on the right)

A few shots at the end.

And hanging out after we rode.

Next we headed over to RnR, because I hadn't ridden yet and Lucy wanted to ride again. There wasn't a close FP+ time available, however, when we got there to do rider swap, stand-by was only 15 minutes! Lucy and I went first and Jason hung out with Maura.

Here is our ride photo. Can you say dork? (Me) Bucky made an appearance as well. The consensus was that he liked scary rides. :)

I hadn't been on this ride in 13 years! I forgot how much fun it was! Definitely a good one. Jason wanted to ride again, so he and Lucy just got in the regular line since it was so short. I hung out with Maura. She made friends with a little boy standing next to us because she loved his bubble machine. I struck up a conversation with the dad and we talked for a bit. They were on their 3rd day in the parks as well and were from Pennsylvania. They were having a great time! Here's some pics of Maura playing.

I had to get a picture of TOT because it was at such a cool angle.

Jason and Lucy were out before too long and loved it as usual. Here is their ride photo.

Now whose the dork? And check out that poor kid in front of Jason. I don't think she liked it!

At this point it was close to 4:00 and we had dinner reservations at Epcot at 5:20, so we started heading out. We loved DHS though! Still a lot we didn't do, but that's why you go back, right?

I'll get to Epcot in the next installment. Until then, everyone have a safe and Happy New Year!

AWESOME UPDATE!!!
I just love it all! the ride photo's and the PP! Never met Minnie there! Fantastic red outfit!!! sorcerer Mickey is shorter then the normal Mickey isn't he?!?! He is awesome!
YAY for RnR! great pictures!

OK gotta run! Happy new year!

Just wanted to come out from my lurking status to say hi!
:wave2:
Loving your updates and following along with your fun family! I've been staying away from the DIS lately. We used to go to WDW every year, but our last trip was 10/2013 and the next isn't until.....brace yourself....4/2016!
I didn't want to torment myself by reading about everyone's fabulous trips, but then I realized I can live vicariously, and that's better than nothing! Thanks for helping feed my addiction!
:thanks:

Wonderful Trip Report! I love all of your photos. You have a beautiful family! I am getting so many great ideas for my family trip in May. We're staying at CBR too. Looking forward to reading more :)

The pictures of the girls with Minnie Mouse are so cute! I love it when characters take a genuine interest in guests, especially in the kids.

LOVE your autograph books! I can not wait until DD is big enough to do stuff like that. It's so much more personal to make them (and WAY better on the pocketbook).

I have never ridden TSMM; every time I've gone the line has been crazy, like 180 minutes, and I'd rather wait that long for a thrill ride. The new FP gives e hope that I'll finally ride it next, I mean THIS year!

Your ride photos are so fun! If you can't be a dork at Disney, where can you be a dork?!?

Thanks! Yeah, that Minnie was so great. One of our top M&Gs of the trip for sure. And I'm not sure about Sorcerer Mickey. I guess he was a shorty, but then they are usually shorter than me, so I didn't notice. And I don't mean I'm tall (I'm 5'7", so totally average), but Mickey and Minnie are usually pretty short.

Hope you had a good New Year!

Just wanted to come out from my lurking status to say hi!
:wave2:

Hello and welcome! Thanks for coming out of lurkdom! I can't find the welcome smiley for some reason, so I'll do this instead.

Whoa. That's a long break! We've gone every 2 years until now, but we are going again in August, so I'm sure my withdrawl will be worse after this trip!

I didn't want to torment myself by reading about everyone's fabulous trips, but then I realized I can live vicariously, and that's better than nothing! Thanks for helping feed my addiction!
:thanks:

Anytime! And I hear you about living vicariously! I am enjoying re-living our trip!

Welcome and thank you! You get a banana too.

Thanks for the compliment about my family. I like them. So glad to hear you are staying at CBR! We have loved it there and feel like we're cheating on it by trying POR in August.

Hopefully more will be coming this weekend!

The pictures of the girls with Minnie Mouse are so cute! I love it when characters take a genuine interest in guests, especially in the kids.

This was such a great meet. They love Minnie to begin with so to have her be so attentive to them was an added bonus.

LOVE your autograph books! I can not wait until DD is big enough to do stuff like that. It's so much more personal to make them (and WAY better on the pocketbook).

We had such a good time doing that, and saved so much $$$. The characters really got a kick out of the books, too.

I bet you'll have no problem getting a FP+ for it. We had it in our original FP+ for the day for just Maura and I, and then scored another one later in the day for all 4 of us!

Your ride photos are so fun! If you can't be a dork at Disney, where can you be a dork?!?

Well, I'm always a dork, but I agree! I probably get dorkier at Disney. :goofy:

Just found your TR - it's great! You guys seem to have a very laid back touring style (which I love) and it looks like you had a blast, looking forward to the rest!
