Even the squirels...

are snugging in for the winter! I have been watching one outside my window building a nest high up in one of the oak trees. He gets his mouth so full of dried leaves, he can hardly carry them! He has to keep stopping every few feet to push them into his mouth farther! He has a nest about 2 feet across already!!

I'm looking at a couple of nests in the trees outside the back window, Diane. Couldn't see them just a few days ago as they were surrounded by leaves. Here comes winter!

Uh-oh

The squirrels are nuts this time of year aren't they?

I was watching a few of them underneath my birdfeeder this morning, along with a bunch of doves and my morning wild bunny. Yes, I have a few bunnies that love my birdseed!

Anyway, the squirrels kept running at the doves to chase them away. One brave squirrel ran full force at the bunny, stopped right in front of him---they had a staring contest for a few seconds and the squirrel, just turned away as if to say, "Okay, never mind, you can stay."

I burst out laughing. The bunny was probably thinking, "I could crush you squirrel, you'd better watch out!"

How cute!! We have wild bunnies too but with 3 dogs in the backyard they don't come to the squirrel feeder. The squirrels and the dogs have running contests everyday. The squirrel will come down to the ground and dare the dogs to come after him. Its kind of like that Geico commercial...the squirrel KNOWS the dogs won't catch him...LOL!

We also have Doves and lately I've seen the cardinals come back, they are so gorgeous.

The squirels around here like to tease the dogs. They run around in the branches above the dog kennel and chatter at the dogs. I have a couple of dogs who ignore them, but I also have a couple who must certainly get stiff necks from looking up at them and trying to "chase" them down out of the trees!
