Even Miracles Take A Little Time; a PTR 5 years in the making. NEW! Nov. 2 - Single Digits!

Oooh I love Food and Wine! In fact, I'm trying to find a way to go for a long weekend this year, but I doubt it will happen!

Anyway, my favorites are OBVIOUSLY the filet and cheddar cheese soup from the Canada booth, the Belgian Waffles from Belgium, usually France has some good stuff, like mac and cheese (in French, obviously) and chicken, but they change their menu a lot I've noticed. If you like sushi, Japan is always good. Oh! And China always has awesome stuff.

I won't bother mentioning my favorite drinks, since you don't drink, but I'm sure there are plenty of non-alcoholic options too! :thumbsup2

First of all, you really should just hire yourself out as a pet portrait photographer, your family portraits are stunning!! What beauties all around.
Howdy folks!

How are you all? I am getting pretty darn sick of the ice. I can deal with snow (I am Canadian afterall!) but the ice that we're getting here on Cape Breton is just ridiculous. Rain and then flash freeze, rain and freeze. My poor horses, I'm terrified for them when they are able to go outside!

It makes it worse that my parents are in Orlando right now. Along with almost every other Dis-friend on my Facebook news feed.

Ah well, it WAS cold there for a large chunk of that time period

If that makes you feel better at all.

My parents weren't in Disney at all, they went down for the Daytona 500. Who does that? Go all the way to Orlando and NOT step foot in Disney??

To all my friends who ran in the Princess Half Marathon and other races, a huge congrats to you, and from someone who would die first in a zombie apocalypse -- I absolutely honour those of you who run for FUN!

Jeff could do that...if it involved seaplanes! He might be unable to avoid margaritaville though. LOL!

It actually WAS fun. Well maybe not the actual RUNNING part but the rest of it was pretty cool. So many distractions you do kind of forget you are running a large chunk of the time.

Backstage Safari - $72 each, at Animal Kingdom. See some behind the scenes places like the animal care centers. A maybe, we are animal lovers of course.
Anyone have any experience with these? Other than Behind the Seeds, Johnny and I haven't done any tours. My parents did the Backstage Magic and loved it. I can't decide.

Too many decisions to make!

Kendall and Jeff did backstage safari and LOVED it! I've done the Wild Africa Trek, a ton of fun and we LOVED loved loved our illuminations cruise.

Another major vote here for the Captian's grille breakfast. Did the buffet this time and the made to order tableside omelet. LOVED it!

Enough about me, what about you?

What is your favourite...
... ride? - Tower of Terror.
... character? - Crush, Princess, Belle
... movie? - Probably Beauty and the Beast, but I have a soft spot for Lady and the Tramp, too.
... Disney restaurant? This is very hard to say. But I really loved Narcoossee's when we went in 2013

Anyone have any experience with these? Other than Behind the Seeds, Johnny and I haven't done any tours. My parents did the Backstage Magic and loved it. I can't decide.
We've done Behind the Seeds, and thought that was very informative. We have done Keys to the Kingdom and loved it! People say not to do it if you don't want to disrupt the magic, but I felt like it enhanced it for me. We are doing the Wild Africa Trek for my ***gulp*** 40th birthday trip in 29 days..... I'll tell you what I think of that one afterwards.

If you've been to the Food & Wine Festival, what are your favourite foods and/or wines?
I have only experienced Food & Wine once, and it was not a great day. I.E. traveling with too many people and trying to make all said people happy. Sound familiar, Wendy?? :rolleyes1 With that being said, we did get the cheese selection in Ireland and the wine there as well. We also got the Sheppard's Pie, which was great, but had red meat in it. So basically, I'm not so helpful on this topic....:confused3

Wendy, as you know from my TR, we fell in love with Food & Wine and the main reason we are going back.

Our favorites were the rainbow trout in England with the cheddar cheese soup, the scallops in Scotland with the potato pancake, the beef and Slush in France. Also, loved the kielbasa in Poland and the Belgian Waffles. Was not a fan of the filet in Canada...very fatty and overcooked.
I've heard bad things about that filet. Too bad, I think Johnny would have tried it. I can't wait to go back and have another chance to give it a try! I hope we can add a few more new items to our list.

I am so behind everywhere that I don't get to PreTripReportLand very often, so I was behind several updates! I am caught up now.
I'm way behind too, Dee. Everywhere!

And of course, I saw your oh-so-important post over on the BC/YC FAQ thread.

:woohoo:

:hyper:

Restaurants- question about Cape May- are you considering that for the character breakfast or dinner? I love the character breakfast with the everyone in their beach attire and great food. I also love the Cape May Clambake, but wonder if you are considering the dinner buffet, since, well, seafood is the big draw. There is other good stuff (some of it red meat, also off limits)
We are thinking breakfast, yes. I just love the beach wear! So adorable!

I believe you read my Captain's Grille breakfast review from my August trip- :thumbsup2 from me and all of my dining companions. I'll post the link here if you want to check it out again. Actually, there are a few reviews on the FAQ dining page, so I'll include those too.

We read these before deciding, it really helped, thanks!

I see you scratched off Tusker House, which makes sense since you have Boma on the list. I think the two places are fairly similar but I like Boma much better.

Good luck choosing the other places you need to cut, especially now that Food & Wine is part of your trip.
We did it! I can't believe it, but we managed to cull the list.

Once again, I love reading about and seeing pictures of your animals. They are beautiful! Some great stories about where they all came from, but I have to say the Oscar story is the best one. I didn't remember that Harry is named after that famous Wizard, but you call him Harry Monster. One of our cats is named Monster Energy Cat, Monster for short.
I love that, we both have a Monster, of sorts! Oscar is really my little Disboards Darling, everyone loves him. I'll have to find him and get some recent pictures.

I am so sorry to hear you were so sick for so long. What a horrid winter!
I'm finally healthy, but the weather is ridiculous. I'm buried.

And I have not done any of the tours, so I can't really give you any advice. I considered Behind the Seeds in August if we got an afternoon rainstorm, but weather was hot and sunny so Stormalong Bay won out. I would love to do KTTK someday, too. But now that you mention Backstage Magic, that sounds awesome!
We got no further on deciding on a tour. :rotfl: I guess that's the next thing we'll have to pay attention to!

I'll try to do a better job keeping up here.

:goodvibes:

Oooh I love Food and Wine! In fact, I'm trying to find a way to go for a long weekend this year, but I doubt it will happen!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Mmmm cheddar cheese soup! One of my fav's too. I can't wait until the menus come out!

I won't bother mentioning my favorite drinks, since you don't drink, but I'm sure there are plenty of non-alcoholic options too! :thumbsup2
You'd be surprised! All Coke or water for us teetotalers.

First of all, you really should just hire yourself out as a pet portrait photographer, your family portraits are stunning!! What beauties all around.
Thank you! I do, occasionally ;)

Ah well, it WAS cold there for a large chunk of that time period

If that makes you feel better at all.
Hahaha no, but nice try!

What a wonderful event to bring so many people together. Some day if I can force myself to get running again... (10 more minutes and then I PROMISE I'm going down on the treadmill!)

Kendall and Jeff did backstage safari and LOVED it! I've done the Wild Africa Trek, a ton of fun and we LOVED loved loved our illuminations cruise.
I see so much good about so many of them, it makes it hard to decide! Oh that IllumiNations cruise looked so amazing.

Another major vote here for the Captian's grille breakfast. Did the buffet this time and the made to order tableside omelet. LOVED it!
*Drooling* I love the look of that place. Happy to say it made the final cut!

Hi Wendy!:wave2: Found ya! I haven't read anything yet, I'll be back to comment more!
:welcome:

We've done Behind the Seeds, and thought that was very informative. We have done Keys to the Kingdom and loved it! I'll tell you what I think of that one afterwards.
I wondered about that. For the longest time I didn't want to disrupt the magic, but now I think I am more like you -- it could enhance it! Can't wait to hear about the Wild Africa Trek. Didn't you know 40 is the new 20? :thumbsup2

I have only experienced Food & Wine once, and it was not a great day. I.E. traveling with too many people and trying to make all said people happy. Dear lord, much too familiar. Hahaha ahh, we're so picky it's basically impossible to ask for food help from others. I do love the sound of that cheese selection though!

Hi folks! How are you all doing?

I am stormed in.

Our winter started out really good, not much wintery activity, then mid-February hit and BOOM!

We got hammered, again and again.

tumblr_mvtiwoSJfL1sq85i2o1_500.gif

Sunday/Monday we had a blizzard that left us with 2 feet of snow, and some 6 foot drifts.

Yes, 6 foot drifts. And that's not to mention the banks the plows left.

(A view from my door at work, the next building is almost buried.)

One of those was right up against my barn door. I was so lucky Johnny was home to help me shovel my way in to feed the horses!

Today? Another blizzard.

Sunday coming? Another blizzard.

I am seriously considering moving to Florida.

Anyway, all that aside, I have a little bit of trip news! We finally managed to get our restaurant list down to where we want it. We have 10 days for our vacation, and we're getting the meal plan, so the starting place was to pick 10 table service meals, but we ended up with 13 because some of them we're going to pay oop for.

Here's the list:

#1: Be Our Guest - This is a must, for dinner AND lunch. And breakfast if that rumor is true!

#2: T-Rex - Yes, it's one we've done (twice) before, but we really love it so much both for the food AND the dinosaurs.

#3: Captain's Grille - A new restaurant for us! We want to try breakfast here, maybe even twice.

#4: Whispering Canyon - Another new one for us. Menu looks good, and can you believe I've never been to the WL???

#5: Tusker House - We thought about cutting this one out and doing Boma instead, but I think we're going to try to cut out a few of the resort trips for restaurants we've been to. We have been here before, but not for breakfast which I think we're going to do.

#6: Mama Melrose - New one again! Honestly, this made it to the final list because it's made it to the short list every trip and we've always cut it. Also there wasn't another restaurant at DHS we wanted and we wanted to have a meal in each park.

#7: Nine Dragons - Another new one! And this is the most adventurous one for us two crazy picky eaters, but my even-pickier-than-me husband just recently discovered that he likes Chinese food so he's really excited for this choice.

#8: Cape May Cafe - For breakfast. A totally new restaurant for us, the breakfast with the characters in their beach wear looks so adorable, and we wanted to take advantage of the restaurant being so close to where we're staying!

#9: San Angel Inn - Another new one! And another that always made the list but not the cut.

#10: Rose & Crown - Same story as above.

#11: Raglan Road - I've been here once, in 2007 and wanted to get back but the menu and my picky husband held us back. He's never been, so we finally took a good look at the menu and he found several items that he thinks look good.

#12: Beaches & Cream - New again, probably pay oop for lunch here some day.

#13: Kona - Not new, but one we adore and love going back to for breakfast. Another one we'll be paying oop for.

A few others to mention, since they're on the "Maybe" list that gets pulled up in case we change our minds or can't get something we wanted...

Boma - Cut because we ate there a few times in 2013, and because we hope to some day stay at AKL again, but it is a favourite and it was a hard one to cut.

1900 Park Fare - Because it would be new for Johnny, a first since 2007 for me, and fun characters.

Biergarten - Because after our trip to Germany last year, Johnny now knows he loves German food. Cut because we've been here several times.

Via Napoli - Johnny's absolute favourite, the hardest one to cut, but we did because we have eaten here before. Probably be the first one called back up.

So that's our food list!

Out of our 13 definites, 8 are brand new for both of us, 1 is a new meal, but not a new restaurant, and 1 more is new for Johnny. That's so impressive for us!

Speaking of food, and slightly off topic...

I'm finally well again after being sick in one way or another for 5 WEEKS! 5!! Now my body is craving vegetables and exercise so I'm using that as a starting block for a diet and exercise lifestyle change. I'm addicted to sugar and the couch so... you know, that has to change! Wish me luck, as soon as I sign off here I'm headed for my treadmill.

Five weeks? Wow...I'm glad you are feeling better. You want my thoughts on your 13? Well, you are getting them. :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

1) Be Our Guest -- LOVE dinner...have done three times; trying lunch in July. I saw the breakfast menu and the prices...we are passing

2) T-Rex -- never been

3) Captain's Grille -- ate here in December 2013; we didn't care for it (could have been the horrible service); we are willing to try again

4) Whispering Canyon Cafe -- are you doing breakfast or dinner? We LOVE breakfast; were not fans of dinner

5) Tusker House -- we've done breakfast three times; last time a little disappointing, but we'd go back

6) Mama Melrose -- we like it and have never had a bad meal (it can be slow)

7) Nine Dragons -- trying in May with Nicki and Todd

8) Cape May -- great character interaction at breakfast

9) San Angel Inn -- never done (I don't eat Mexican food)

10) Rose and Crown -- a favorite of ours and we will be eating here in July and probably October

11) Raglan Road -- another favorite

12) Beaches & Cream -- we really like it here; share a dessert...they are huge

14) Kona -- my favorite breakfast in all of Disney (pressed pot coffee :worship:)

So sorry to hear about your miserable March!!! Sound like our fierce February in the Boston area. I hope you are thawed out soon.

:cold:

I am finally returning to my work on the farm next week.

Here's the list:

#1: Be Our Guest - This is a must, for dinner AND lunch. And breakfast if that rumor is true!

Not a bad choice at all. Fantastic atmosphere and great meal selections (although I chose the wrong menu items at my lunch)

#2: T-Rex - Yes, it's one we've done (twice) before, but we really love it so much both for the food AND the dinosaurs.

:thumbsup2 Roar of approval for this one.

#3: Captain's Grille - A new restaurant for us! We want to try breakfast here, maybe even twice.

::yes::

#4: Whispering Canyon - Another new one for us. Menu looks good, and can you believe I've never been to the WL???

I have never been to the WL either!!! :sad2:

Not a bad choice if you are staying in the park.

#6: Mama Melrose - New one again! Honestly, this made it to the final list because it's made it to the short list every trip and we've always cut it. Also there wasn't another restaurant at DHS we wanted and we wanted to have a meal in each park.

Have not been since 2008. We enjoyed our meal. As Kathy mentioned, can be slow service.

#7: Nine Dragons - Another new one! And this is the most adventurous one for us two crazy picky eaters, but my even-pickier-than-me husband just recently discovered that he likes Chinese food so he's really excited for this choice.

Haven't tried this.

#8: Cape May Cafe - For breakfast. A totally new restaurant for us, the breakfast with the characters in their beach wear looks so adorable, and we wanted to take advantage of the restaurant being so close to where we're staying!

The characters are so stinking cute and the food is great!

#9: San Angel Inn - Another new one! And another that always made the list but not the cut.

We have enjoyed our meals here, love the atmosphere, but La Hacienda is our new Mexican cutie.

#10: Rose & Crown - Same story as above.

Haven't been, but have a Scotch egg for me!

#11: Raglan Road - I've been here once, in 2007 and wanted to get back but the menu and my picky husband held us back. He's never been, so we finally took a good look at the menu and he found several items that he thinks look good.

Never been- same comment as above on the Scotch egg.

#12: Beaches & Cream - New again, probably pay oop for lunch here some day.

And my deep dark Beach Club secret- I have never been here for lunch or dinner. Or ice cream. :duck:

#13: Kona - Not new, but one we adore and love going back to for breakfast. Another one we'll be paying oop for.

Great choice for any meal, but especially breakfast!!! :cool1:

GREAT CHOICES!!!

Amazing!!! We continue to have such similar weather. :confused3

Ugh, this is starting to get a little ridiculous. The snow here in the city is insane right now just like there. I'm fine with winter, but even I'm done with it.

Obviously I'm not one to give much opinion on ADR's, but Whispering Canyon sounds so great ESPECIALLY since you'll get to see WL.

And hey, I have done one TS now (1900 Park) and it's on your list!!! The maybe list, but the list nonetheless.

I think this is not only the winter for snow, but for sickness as well. I swear I've had bouts with something constantly since December. Glad to hear you're on the mend.

It was 78 and gorgeous here in St. Louis the other day and now it's back to 40 and cloudy. We don't have 2feet of snow, but I still think about moving to florida.....

I keep reading things on a disney facebook group about breakfast at BOG. It looks good!

Everything on your list sounds good. You'll love beaches n creme!! I'm hungry for the grilled cheese and tomato soup just thinking about it!

Great ADR list. I am thinking about San Angle Inn for August. I think I have made a grand total for 2 ADRs. Nine Dragons is one I have never tried, but I would like to. Good luck making your final decisions.

#3: Captain's Grille - A new restaurant for us! We want to try breakfast here, maybe even twice.
We usually eat breakfast there when we stay at the BC or YC. It has a good breakfast buffet or you can order off the menu. This one might be a good one for OOP.

#4: Whispering Canyon - Another new one for us. Menu looks good, and can you believe I've never been to the WL???
Dinner here is a lot of fun. The food is good, too.

#5: Tusker House - We thought about cutting this one out and doing Boma instead, but I think we're going to try to cut out a few of the resort trips for restaurants we've been to. We have been here before, but not for breakfast which I think we're going to do.

We are trying this place for lunch on our trip next month. We are also going to try the new restaurant on the Boardwalk that replaced Kouzzina, Trato al Forna, or whatever it is called. We've heard some good things about it.

I'm finally well again after being sick in one way or another for 5 WEEKS! 5!! Now my body is craving vegetables and exercise so I'm using that as a starting block for a diet and exercise lifestyle change. I'm addicted to sugar and the couch so... you know, that has to change! Ugh, that snow.... I can't wrap my head around snow in March. It's Spring Break season here in FL so pretty much anyone and everyone has been at the beach this past week. I see photos of your snow drifts and start to worry Alex will have to move us up north! :rotfl2:

It sounds like you're being adventurous with your ADR choices, which I applaud. Typically, it's really hard not to book the same restaurants over and over again. You know they are delicious and you know you're guaranteed a good meal, whereas with a new place you're taking a gamble. So good for you for including several new places on this trip.

Although, I think Via Napoli should be re-included. :rotfl: Their pizza is really worth paying OOP for.

Ooooh your ADR list sounds delicious! You'll have to let me know how BOG breakfast is if you get a ressie! I'm glad you're finally feeling better but boooo to the snow :( You should move to Florida! It's beautiful down here except for the rain.

So sorry to hear about your miserable March!!! Sound like our fierce February in the Boston area. I hope you are thawed out soon.

:cold:

I am finally returning to my work on the farm next week.

We're getting a rain storm tonight/tomorrow. Thank goodness it's not snow, and I hope it helps to make a good dent in our banks!

GREAT CHOICES!!!
Thanks for all your input regarding our meal choices! Like I said to Kathy, I love getting good feedback on all the places we have never tried before.

Amazing!!! We continue to have such similar weather. :confused3
Haha I know, so crazy.

Ugh, this is starting to get a little ridiculous. The snow here in the city is insane right now just like there. I'm fine with winter, but even I'm done with it.
I'm the same, no point in complaining about winter... but this one? Yeah I'm complaining about this one. Very much done! Hoping tonight's rain will wash a lot of it away.

Obviously I'm not one to give much opinion on ADR's, but Whispering Canyon sounds so great ESPECIALLY since you'll get to see WL.

And hey, I have done one TS now (1900 Park) and it's on your list!!! The maybe list, but the list nonetheless.
Haha we're pretty excited to see the WL. And 1900PF keeps poking its head back onto the good list... you never know.

I think this is not only the winter for snow, but for sickness as well. I swear I've had bouts with something constantly since December. Glad to hear you're on the mend.
Yikes, hope you're feeling 100% (and stay that way!) very soon.

It was 78 and gorgeous here in St. Louis the other day and now it's back to 40 and cloudy. We don't have 2feet of snow, but I still think about moving to florida.....
I'm just jealous of anything above freezing. I'll take it! It's 1 degree here today. (Celcius... so 33f?) I'm celebrating!

I keep reading things on a disney facebook group about breakfast at BOG. It looks good!
I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some more information, but I just love that restaurant that any excuse to get in works for me!

Everything on your list sounds good. You'll love beaches n creme!! I'm hungry for the grilled cheese and tomato soup just thinking about it!
Mmmm that sounds so good!

Great ADR list. I am thinking about San Angle Inn for August. I think I have made a grand total for 2 ADRs. Nine Dragons is one I have never tried, but I would like to. Good luck making your final decisions.
Thanks Mary Ellen! I'd like to hear about San Angel if you do go. I haven't heard too much about it so it's still a wiggly one on my list. :rotfl:

We usually eat breakfast there when we stay at the BC or YC. It has a good breakfast buffet or you can order off the menu. This one might be a good one for OOP.

Dinner here is a lot of fun. The food is good, too.

We had breakfast at Tusker House once and had good food and a lot of fun with the characters. :)

Thanks for all your input! I appreciate it all. I'm trying to read everything I can about the places we've never been.

I'm sorry to hear that you have been sick for so long. I hope the weather gets better soon, too.
Thanks, I think we're finally starting to get a little better. Our snowstorm forecasted for this weekend has changed to rain! :cheer2:

Ugh, that snow.... I can't wrap my head around snow in March. It's Spring Break season here in FL so pretty much anyone and everyone has been at the beach this past week. I see photos of your snow drifts and start to worry Alex will have to move us up north! :rotfl2:
Oh no, tell him that he might think it looks like fun, but wait until he can't get out of his house because the snow is 5 feet up every one of your doors and you're crawling out windows and digging with your hands to find your shovel... :rotfl:

It sounds like you're being adventurous with your ADR choices, which I applaud. Typically, it's really hard not to book the same restaurants over and over again. You know they are delicious and you know you're guaranteed a good meal, whereas with a new place you're taking a gamble. So good for you for including several new places on this trip.
It's really hard to branch out of what you like! Especially since we're both picky and creatures of habit. I'm so proud of us!

Although, I think Via Napoli should be re-included. :rotfl: Their pizza is really worth paying OOP for.
Very true, and it might just make it back on. I mentioned Via Napoli for lunch some day and Johnny was very interested.

Ooooh your ADR list sounds delicious! You'll have to let me know how BOG breakfast is if you get a ressie! I'm glad you're finally feeling better but boooo to the snow :( You should move to Florida! It's beautiful down here except for the rain.
I am really excited about our list! I am reading all I can about BOG and their breakfast, I hope it's something we can do.
Oh the snow. I'm telling you, if it weren't for my animals I'd be in Florida right now house shopping.

Ugh so much snow! I can relate, yesterday was the first day of spring, and it snowed. And then it snowed again this morning. I've never hated snow so much, I really need to move to a tropical climate!

Your ADR list sounds awesome! You're really going to do BoG for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? That's impressive! :thumbsup2 What would be even cooler, is doing all 3 in one day! :rotfl:

There are so many awesome places on your list that I love, Mama Melrose really jumped out at me, because I love it, and I haven't been there in forever, and now you're making me want to add it back for my May trip! And who knows where I'd put that, my ADR situation is a mess right now! :faint:

I am seriously considering moving to Florida.

Seriously, Wendy, I hear ya there and where I am there's very little snow left. It was spitting snow this morning, however, and I said aloud to no one but my cat "SERIOUSLY!?" I'm so over this winter! I think a few of our Disboard friends have the right idea by making Florida their permanent homes... :rolleyes1

Your ADR list looks great! So many restaurants I've yet to try!
