A pretty basic question about currency.

I've only ever travelled abroad to the USA so not sure if t/chqs work in the same way everywhere?

Do you use your Euro Travellers cheque ie. do you just sign it and give it in exchange for goods and they give you the change in currency?

See I told you it was a basic question! I don't want to take too much cash but wanted to make sure I don't have to faff about cashing travellers cheques & finding somewhere to do it.

Also, we're going for 5 nights & taking about £1000 worth of Euros, I've heard the food is v.v. expensive so going to do "fast food" most of the time with an odd meal - just hope we're taking enough

Ok, I've never used travellers cheques in DLRP. Guess you'd be able to cash them at one of the change places there. Travellers cheques are not as readily accepted in Europe unlike in the USA.

How many people are there going with you?

Sorry that reply was a little short. I was trying to talk to someone at the same time as typing!

You can get lunch in the parks for around 10 euros per person.

A meal at Annettes is roughly 20 euros per person for the set menu.

There a a few budget buffets for between 20 and 30 euros per person.

I'd suggest a daily food budget of 50 euros per person per day, times that by the number of people and the number of days to get a rough price.

For my family (wife, 18 month old and I) we have budgeted for 100 euros per day for food for 6 days = 600 euros.

Personally I'd take cash with me as I find it far too inconvienient to use travellers cheques in Europe

There are a few cashpoints that accept visa/maestro cards so you don't have to take huge sums of cash with you. Also we use the half board plus option so as not to worry about food money other than a snack for lunch which works out much cheaper with the poor euro at the moment.

Thank you for the quick replies. The price info for the food was very helpful too. Whenever I've been to WDW we've really just snacked our way through the holiday so we're not big on sit down meals but thought we'd perhaps try one, Annettes looked pretty cool in the guidebook (there was a pic of a lady with a big bowl of cheese nachos - yummmmm)

Thanks also for the info about the cash machine, I have maestro so wll be able to use that when there too.

I'll probably end up getting cash then and splitting it between us just in case

Thanks again!

If you look at dlpfoodguide you can get a good idea of the offerings at the different restaurants and roughly how much they will cost. There are also reviews in our Restaurant sticky.

Annette's is very good value plus the portions are HUGE!!

There are also excellent value buffets at Agrabah Cafe, Rendez-Vous des Stars, Plaza Gardens and Billy Bob's La Grange. For a few more euros each there is a character buffet at The Lucky Nugget.

As for counter service I think the best value are Cowboy Cookout and Fuente del Oro.

Also, don't forget you'll get breakfast included at the Cheyenne. :goodvibes

Hi,

Pay using a credit card whereever you can in the park - if you have a Nationwide credit card you will not get charged any conversion fee unlike other cards, normally 2.75% of the amount.

If you need cash, get a Nationwide account and use the debit card to withdraw money in Euros from the cashpoints - again no charge for this. Do not use a credit card to get cash as you'll will be charged for the withdrawl and get charged interest! Your choice!

Therefore, no need to take travellers cheques and no real need to take any Euros unless you have some left over form a previous trip.

Rgds
