FYI, the European Union is likely to impose a travel ban this Monday for travel from the United States to the European Union countries. It is unclear if this is unvaccinated only because it says the US will be moved to a RED country status, which kind of applies to everyone from that country. I'm worried because I have a trip on the Sep 4th - now looking to be unlikely even while being vaccinated. I'm worried that at best they would allow vaccinated but then impose the old 7-day quarantine, which makes a 7 day trip useless. sigh.

here is one link, you can find more by just searching European Travel in news:

Note, also, that this does mean every country will abide by this, but I don't see why they wouldn't if the speculation right now is that non of them are objecting. So...I guess we'll get more answers monday and later, but not looking good at all.

So far the news from the European Union (or in our case French government) is still not updated but as I read newer and newer news stories they don't make it sound good - especially when they use words like: "Halting non-essential travel". Ughh.

I was stressing about this for weeks and we JUST got back from our trip Saturday. Super thankful this didn't happen a week ago.

In what I'm reading today, it sounds like this would be for unvaccinated travelers.

Can you tell me what you've read today that would lead to that conclusion? I can't find anything except that they MAY do this and each country MAY decide not to let US citizens in.

It looks like its a recommendation and its up to the individual countries to decide what restrictions to impose.

That's misleading - the decision they are making has nothing to do with unvaccinated travelers, rather it is to move the entire US from the green list to the RED list and BAN non-essential travel. That movement, moving to RED list and banning non-essential travel applies to all, not just unvaccinated. I know if it confusing but the new stories are poorly written.

Note that for france, if they deem the US to be a RED country, like the recommendation from the EU, then that restricts travel even for vaccinated people, where at best they would have to quarantine for 7 days. France hasn't done that yet, but I'm still waiting on info from the Embassy to see if they will - last response this morning they directed me to their website which still maintained the US as a Green country. Again, EU RED country is recommendation, and France can choose to move us to RED if they wish - and I can't tell yet if they will and when.

very helpful, thank you. Our early October trip is definitely feeling much more in limbo (at best) but we always knew this could be the case. sigh.

Well I'm rooting for you. France either might not bother since they have there own health pass system in place or be slow to implement it and you'll be there and back before they do anything. We had an amazing time and everywhere required proof of vaccination status before entering.

Thank you. I hope they do keep the system they have in place - I'm trying to be optimistic - and hence allow us vaccinated people to visit this beautiful city. I think worst case I will know by wednesday if they decide something - that would give me time to cancel if needed, but since this EU declaration is non-binding, I hope France doesn't adhere to them. But I would be willing to do testing, it's the quarantine that would kill my trip so as as long as doesn't happen then I am good and I can return to Disneyland Paris! crossing fingers
