Did I spell that right?

Just listening to the podcast and was amused by the brief discussion about escargot. I've always said that escargot is just an excuse for some really good garlic butter. :lmao:

I usually always get it at Tritons/Lumiere's when on DCL. For some reason on our Sept 1 cruise I got it as an app and took one bite and for the first time actually thought about what I was eating. It was horrible. No amount of garlic sauce could remove my mind from what I was putting in my mouth. My days of escargot are over....I think it is a good thing!

:rolleyes1 Hmmmm. I'm kinda afraid of it, but I'll try anything once!

I guess you wouldn't be up for a big bowl of steamers, then?:lmao:

I've tried it for french class, they were okay. It was very hard to get over what you were eating, but if you think about it you eat spiders while you sleep and other animals when you eat meat.

I think they are yummilicious. They are fun to eat, albeit expensive. The one's at the F&W festifal are very very good. I tried them first when I was 5 in Canada and they've been one of my favorites ever since.

OHHH now your talkin'! Nothing like some good New England steamers!! I am the only one in my house that likes them....more for me!!

I have tried escargot before...my first cruise. Our table mates got them and there was enough that the plate went around the table and we each tried them. I don't remember them being that bad. I would try them again!

What a bunch of pansies! :rotfl: :rotfl: We love escargot! They have a very earthy taste, like mushrooms, add butter and garlic and you really can't go wrong. They have fantastic escargot at Chefs de France! Dare you. :) MMMMmmmmm. Though, I'd have to say my fam are quite adventurous eaters. My DD, 6 wows us constantly, she loves oysters, steamers, escargot, sushi, loves raw fish. I'm not complaining I think it's fantastic. She'll try anything once. And if she likes it there's no stopping her. :) Happy weekend to all you escargot consumers and non-consumers. :dance3:

Let's be honest....

No one would eat the little critters if it wasnt for the garlic and butter.

No one ever says "I'd like the escargot....hold the garlic butter."

Without the garlic butter, you are eating a little black ball of rubber cement.

They look like little black balls?! Wierd. And yet, it makes them more acceptable. ball form=safe

Thank You Kevin !!!!!!

....giving 'em a fancy name doesn't make 'em taste good either. :lmao:

Thats how I feel too...we had it at the F&W last year and it tasted very earthy, like a mushroom. I would like to order it again at Chefs one time...I have a feeling it would be much better

OK Kevin, nice of the foodie to join the anti-escargot bandwagon! What did those little snails ever do to you? :rotfl2: I've had them quite a few times and never would I describe them as "little black balls of rubber cement." :lmao: When prepared correctly they should be quite tender. Although I will admit the butter and garlic or pesto or whatever are a must. On with the debate...................:upsidedow

:hippie:

I tried them last year on the DDP at Chefs de France. There was not enough garlic butter to make me eat more than one. :crazy2:

Only a hungry person could come up with an idea to cook these:

I wonder how the shell would taste with some melty cheese in it ;) Yummy.

Yep, garlic bread is the best part. The only possible use for the stuff, is as fodder for bad :sad2: jokes:

A snail oozes into an automobile showroom, pulls out $50,000 in crisp bills and orders a fancy red convertible. "One favor," the snail requests. "Please paint a big 'S' on each of the doors." "Sure," says the salesman, "but why would you want that?" The snail replies: "So that when my friends see me driving down the street, they can all shout, "Look at the S Car Go!"

Reviving this thread - we had the escargot at the F&W festival earlier this week and they were wonderful. Tiny bowls of bread, hollowed out with the little critter inside and a good amount of garlic butter poured into it, then the top put back on.

That sounds delicious!!! Here is another vote on loving them. My kids 14 and 16 specifically asked if they could try them at Chefs de France. They liked them and said they would have them again.
