It’s time for us to go back to Disney World, our home away from home, after three years away! If you check out the list of trip reports from our previous trips by CLICKING HERE you will see we’ve taken many trips over the years, but never one time did we have three years between trips! Of course there were some outside factors (......COVID......) that caused things to work out this way, but we are finally going home!

Welcome back everyone who might have read our trips before or welcome to those who have never read one of our trip reports. This one promises to be a very different trip with all that has gone on, but we have been waiting long enough to get back to Walt Disney World. This will be our family's 8th overall trip to Disney World. You can read about our last trip, all the way back in June of 2018 HERE. Our strategy has always been to get an annual pass and use it for three trips, then we skip a year and vacation elsewhere before starting the Disney annual pass thing over again. So, in the summer of 2019 we went on a Royal Caribbean Cruise which you can read about HERE. Then, around November of that year I started purchasing our annual passes, one each month so as to spread out the cost in anticipation of another year of Disney from the summer of 2020 to the summer of 2021. About 2 weeks after I purchased the final annual pass and then, COVID happened, and boy did it ever last longer than anyone thought. It canceled our first trip with our annual passes in the summer of 2020 because the parks were closed. With that in mind we decided to forego Disney that summer and rent out our DVC points, which we were luckily able to do at the last minute.

We then had the debate of whether we should get a refund of our annual passes or no, but we elected not to. I mean, we had them paid for and we knew we’d go again in the future and as long as we didn’t activate them. Also, I know not everyone is as fortunate as we have been, but DW and I, as teachers have kept our employment this whole time and so taking the refund for money reasons wasn’t necessary. So, we decided to just sit on the AP’s and try again in the summer of 2021. So, with all that said, It’s finally time for another trip report!

REMINDER: You can read about our previous trips by CLICKING HERE.

So, anyways, let’s get the introductions out of the way.

Introductions

I will start by introducing myself, I’m Jon.

AMWts8A1zgznGtzID14APHQlsYG76rQuUc0bFDAFZ89oX0usx-KGVZeebc3V1er2_rEM0jDgOOrZBGLysZPGdiplVQxiozjoJSGThurR9SI3PFuB9wXkGnjMTUtcLMkTOwQe2hcEAFLPD55HQB1eEfRTq2Ip8g=w1940-h1454-no

I am a high school football coach and athletic director and love the “day job” I get to do every day. I’ve been teaching and coaching at the same school for sixteen years and just finished my sixth season as the head football coach. Anyway, I honestly think I have the best job in the world. Being able to make a positive impact on kids every day is something I love doing. It certainly has its challenges, but overall I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else. I also started as a travel agent about eleven years ago as a side hustle. That business has grown into something I never thought it would. We have agents across the United States and just became an independent agency in the last couple of years. I don’t sell much anymore myself directly, I just do all of the “behind the scenes” administrative stuff to support our agents. Anyways, here are my favorites:

Favorite Character: Goofy
Favorite Ride: Rise of the Resistance
Favorite Show: Festival of the Lion King
Favorite Movie: The Lion King
Favorite Restaurant: ‘Ohana

Now for my best friend and wife, April.

AMWts8AwVMrqZQ5BjWSHKO4gYfHcdzO9kIwXqccMeFkMLS6K5mVotcNvFU4B050TUScL_p5kdKCHJPu2fosOlK82-cTujTc6b2xYm3_HRDPHH1dzYL74J0wRgY0pKCsjxMGBRs6sxvcGSa0jMoD-JJ2LS4CjlQ=w1092-h1454-no

April loves our family vacations as well as almost any time we get to spend together. We have developed a love for Disney and vacationing together and it is something she cherishes. She is a school psychologist by day and an incredible mother and wife by night. She works in the same school district I do and so we get to see each other every day, which really is nice. I mean I can walk to her office or either of our kids classrooms in five minutes or less without ever going outside! How awesome is that? She loves her job working with kids as well and she is awesome at it. She also is an assistant basketball coach for our school and at the time I’m writing this they just won a State Championship!!! Woo woo!

Favorite Character: Ariel
Favorite Ride: Rock 'n Roller Coaster
Favorite Show: Festival of the Lion King
Favorite Movie: Little Mermaid
Favorite Restaurant: Whispering Canyon Cafe (Breakfast!)

Next up is DS9.

AMWts8DRkkVtGCKH7QTcfdQofacby598mDzxKEi40WnPtmuPHZR6ccrUNP0rkUxLYY3RJzPJ-ZJJUL2gNWY68rfkBR4Q6Q42vrRFvYxdqQGfwGug2lHz2NqM-1yE5r6-Ciq82AmeqhzX8DaX5nEce2Q7LtLzLA=w1940-h1454-no

He is actually almost 11 at the time I'm writing this, but he was nine when we took this trip! I’m sure all of you with kids know how fast they grow up! He loves sports and playing outside with his friends. He plays football, basketball and runs track. He also still enjoys Disney stuff and going to the parks, although he might not tell you that since he thinks he’s a little older than he actually is! Anyway, he is an awesome kid and is now a great big brother. He also would become extremely infatuation with Star Wars on this trip!

Favorite Character: Mickey
Favorite Ride: Rise of the Resistance
Favorite Show: Jammitor’s
Favorite Movie: Star Wars
Favorite Restaurant: Garden Grill

Finally, the one who keeps things lively, DS5.

AMWts8DuHA2osufEycqgCdLoLcq9ZKB7wcLttuyTNWAydJV-1oYWZ1aiUVA0DE-fZabwNfx6kOQ4ZIjjJ0dhkKEwq-72QgD6378I5eiJxUq0x4IpmTJ2Z0VGWTDBnAN0WsRArul_0zRWrjNP5lpCdRPan4IeXA=w1092-h1454-no

DS5 is an incredibly sweet little boy who LOVES his mommy, but man is he awnry, opinionated, and LOUD! He is now seven years old in real life, but was five when we took this trip. Let me tell you, for being a little guy, he has the biggest voice! He loves playing with his brother and he is also quite the fan of dancing! He loves Mickey and even has a stuffed animal that he sleeps with every night. Anyways, we are looking forward to seeing the different things he enjoys on this trip as he’s a little older.

Favorite Character: Mickey
Favorite Ride: “Roller Coasters”
Favorite Show: Jammitor’s
Favorite Movie: Cat in the Hat
Favorite Restaurant: Anywhere with Mac ‘n Cheese

Well, that’s who we are. Stand by for Day 1.

DISCLAIMER ON THIS TRIP REPORT:
I want to apologize in advance because this trip is from so long ago. The Summer of 2021, but I want to write it anyway for a couple of reasons:

First, when I'm writing about our travels it is just great for me. It is a way to re-live the fun that we had and it just helps put me in a good mood!

Second, I ultimately write these so that I have a place to look back and have a record of our trips that one day I can share with my kids as they are older. I mean what an awesome way for them to look back on the things they did!

I have another whole trip in the summer of 2022 to do after this, so I may crank things out kind of fast on this trip report to kind of catch up. As always, it's great to talk with those of you who like to read these like I do, so please, please, please, comment away!!!

Day 1 - Part 1 - I Guess It’s Too Early for Breakfast

The alarm clock always seems to come early on Disney Day for us, and this trip started that same way with a 3:25 AM wake up call! But, there aren’t many flight options out of Oklahoma City and so that is what we do to make the most of our vacation time. We have done this enough times though that it wasn’t too bad. We were in the car and headed to the airport by 4:00 and by 4:30 we were parked at the off-site parking location we always use and onboard their shuttle. We were at the terminal by 4:40 and check in with Southwest was super simple this morning. Our flight was at 6:30, so not a huge crowd at the airport yet.

We have TSA Pre-Check, so security was a breeze and by 5:00 we were through and ready to find the boys some breakfast!

AMWts8AryYWAfGj1r3u_z22WAFXK5HoAZgJ5kiiNosXwIcPnFY1A2Lh9VDMtzPTPrD__eRyS6T3VcsNH58TZa1XKgVXF0nlyNp1J-YA-ZgLtdW_GzhtNvK0u6RCB5r5GUhqPK6VJu78fKTAEclGEhWY8MIIf_A=w1092-h1454-no

DS9 and I took off walking through the terminal and looked at some of the planes while searching for breakfast. We walked all through that airport and there wasn’t one place open selling breakfast of any type. OKC isn’t a huge airport, but there are plenty of flights going out this time of morning on SW, Delta, American, & United. We had some construction going on, but not having anywhere for breakfast was weird. Even Starbucks and the other coffee shop we have weren’t open at 5:30. DS9 looked at me and said, “I guess it’s too early for breakfast?” Well, maybe so! Here is the food court area with three or so restaurants, completely abandoned:

So, we did the next best thing and found breakfast in the one shop that was open, here is what the boys chose:

Yes, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos for breakfast! We had about 30 minutes left before boarding started and so we did some more plane spotting:

Also, at some point leading up to boarding I had managed to snag a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance. You see this was our first trip since COVID, so we’d never used boarding groups before and of course you don’t get to select a time. So, I just tried to grab one hoping it would be for later in the day. Turns out I got boarding group 40 and this was the picture I snapped during our layover in Houston. I don’t think we are going to make it!

We only had about a 60 minute layover and by 9:15 our plane was leaving for Orlando. It was another uneventful flight with some cool pics from the plane. As you can see DS5 fell asleep on me. It was an early morning. Also, this was our first time flying for me to take both boys and take a whole row and DW sat by herself on the row in front or behind. We actually loved this. The boys can kind of help entertain each other and DW gets some relaxation time on the flight!

Glad to be back on here. Life was so crazy and weird there for a while. Not at all weird in a bad way, just so different and everything seemed out of what our routine had been. But things are settling down!

Time has flown! The boys have gotten so big! I’m so happy you are back!

I am about 99.9% sure I tried to talk them into regular cheetos instead of flamin' hot because it was 5:30 AM, but they weren't having it! I like spicy foods, but I can't stand the taste of that flamin' hot stuff, but kids now days love it.

Joining in, I have read many of your reports and wow your boys are getting so big!
I hope you made the Rise Boarding group!
We love Rise, one of our favorites!

I'm not sure I'll remember to write about it, but we did not make it to Rise. It came up at about 9:00 AM when we were in the air. Now, I'm pretty sure they would have let us ride even if we had been late with what I now know about Boarding Groups, but we didn't know that then! haha

Day 1 Part 2 - You Can’t Make Me Smile

We pick the story back up as we are taking some photos by the big screen in the airport atrium. After that it was time to go grab our bags and head to the Magic Express Check in Area. Typing that just makes me sad now. We miss the magical express! It was about 12:40 by this point and our bags showed up pretty quickly. We were ready to head to the bus area, but first we had to do one final thing to get ready to head to Disney World:

With our Magic Band colors for the day selected we headed off and got to the Magical Express check in at 1:05 and were on a bus at 1:13 PM. That bus left at 1:21 PM, so all in all not too bad. DS5 sat by me for the trip:

DS9 sat by…check that, slept on DW during the ride. That’s what happens when you get up at 3:00 AM!

Pop Century was our first resort of the trip and that happened to be the first stop. We were off the bus at Pop at 1:45, pretty darn quick! We were all hungry so we mobile ordered some lunch from Everything Pop. DW and I got kids meals too because we weren’t just super hungry and since it was almost the middle of the afternoon we just needed to make it until dinner. I didn’t take pics of our meals, but I got the Kids Cheeseburger which actually wasn’t too bad. DW got the kids chicken strips, which are just standard, but she enjoyed it!

I’m sure everyone is on the edge of their seats as to what DS5 will decide to eat. He chose mac ‘n cheese! That is some major foreshadowing!

He enjoyed it! DS9 decided on a kids meal that was called Chicken & Pasta. It had a grilled chicken breast and some pasta with tomato sauce. He loved both of these things. I mean he ate it all in a hurry! He didn’t love the green beans, they were a little rubbery, but he loved the chicken and pasta. This was also a huge serving for the $7 or so that we paid. It could have easily fed an adult!

Anyway, it was about 2:30 by the time we finished eating and our room wasn’t ready. We took a vote and decided to go ahead over to Hollywood Studios. We weren’t planning on doing to much park time, but we did want to go ahead and go to a park and get our Annual Passes activated. It would have been nice for the room to be ready, but we also didn’t want to sit around and twiddle our thumbs. It was storming outside so we had to take a bus over. A bus came after about a five minute wait.

We were here by about 2:45:

We took a few minutes and went to guest relations outside of the entrance and the cast member was able to quickly activate our annual passes and get us our AP cards. By 3:00 or so, we were inside!

We were inside and everyone actually looked nice since we were in our “We’re Going to Disney World” attire, so why not get some photopass pictures done. Well, we were all onboard with this plan…except DS9. You can see he was not in a picture taking mood. Again, we’d been up since 3 AM!

Anyways, pictures out of the way we decided to start down Sunset Boulevard and for some reason chose Tower of Terror. The wait only said 25 minutes and we really didn’t have a plan, but DS9 and I wanted to ride this. DW is not a fan at all of drop rides, so she sat it out. But DS5 did go with us. This was his first time.

DS9 had his brother practicing his scary face to get ready for the ride!

Here is our first PP ride pic of the trip. Let's hope you can see us better on future rides!

We ended up waiting 37 minutes, which is way too long for us, but we had committed and we really didn’t have anything else to do as our room still wasn’t ready. So, we were out at about 3:50 and ready to find something else to do. What would we find to occupy us next?

Up Next: That’s a Lot of Water!
