"New ticket-scanning system in tests at Walt Disney World

Epcot's park entrance is currently the "guinea pig" for a new ticket-scanning system being tested at Walt Disney World. With this system, guests do not have to insert their ticket into a machine; turnstiles have also been eliminated. Disney is looking at this as a way to make park entry easier for guests, particularly guests utilizing strollers or wheelchairs. "

Does anyone know what this new system is? and how it works?

hmm I would guess without inserting that it is just a scanner like the one the CMs have on their side that they use when a ticket doesn't scan correctly.

I wonder how no turnstiles will work with all the people that don't realize their ticket didn't scan right though. we had this happen a few times last trip and the only reason we noticed is becasue the turnstile didn't turn, otherwise we would have just walked right in. Many times the CM was helping a guest on the other side so I'm not sure they would have noticed.

I've been wondering how this is working. Honestly it remind me when I was younger and going to a bar with a group of friend and the one underage would sneak in behind the of age ones.

What I really am wondering about it was is happending at DCA. Right now they are putting up the frames of the new entrance gates.

Rumor is that DCA will get fingerscans at the turnstyles, which DLR really needs as many people share tickets there. But it will also alleviate problems with the Premier passes and possibly using WDW tickets at DLR.

But I wonder if they are testing this system at WDW because they want to know if it should be installed at DCA in the next couple months.

we were there when they were testing these out and we were asked to try it... there is a CM directing you to one of the tkt machines and each machine has a CM behind it you scan your tkt/ktw (its like a price checker) you get the green light and you go... it great when you have a stroller which we did ;). It seems like a good system but I don't know how well it will do with crowd control.

Interesting...I hadn't heard anything about it in nearly a month, I thought they dropped it. Early reports showed issues with people figuring it out and less-than-helpful CMs.

Maybe they've made adjustments and are trying it again. It wasn't necessarily meant to speed things up in general, but make it a bit easier on those with strollers, etc. as getting through those gates while also dealing with tickets and finger scans in a crowd was so much fun...

It looks interesting, but I can't see how they can handle large crowds with that set up... Especially with kids (i.e. parents scanning in for kids, or not...)

I agree. It looks confusing and could possibly be more hectic than it is now with the turn styles. I've never had to deal with strollers or wheelchairs, so this could be a good idea... but not for every single guest to wait in whatever kind of line they'd set up for this. I'd like to know how organized this is in the morning when the park first opens.

In general, only guests with strollers, wheelchairs, etc. are invited to use it.
